There are about half a dozen sets of lights and major crossroads, how is that even possible.
  • Anzac Freeway to be Grade Seperated
  • Local roads serviced by a connector road on each side of the Anzac Freeway
  • Ramps from the freeway at South Road, Beckman Street, Marion Road, Morphett Road and Brighton Road
  • End Freeway just after Brighton Road Underpass
  • 2 lanes each direction Glenelg to South Road
  • 3 lanes South Road to City
  • Incoming, seperate lanes at Brighton Road (1), Morphett Road (1), Marion Road (1), South Road (2, form 1 lane when merging at Anzac Freeway to start 3 lane Freeway)
  • Grote Tunnel - West Terrace to Wakefield Street Police HQ, exits at Victoria Square Northbound and Southbound

That seems like a freeway for the sake of a freeway. A freeway from Glenelg to the city centre is not desirable and is certainly not worthy of the expenditure.

Especially with a tram line running parallel!

It's just an idea... in any way Anzac Highway needs to be improved from South Road to the City if they want to keep it running smoothly.

Given the wide road reserve for both Anzac Highway and Port Road I do wonder whether a better alternative to upgrading South Road is a free flowing expressway along Anzac highway east of south road, then through (or perhaps under) the parklands/West Terrace and out Port Road back to South Road. South Road would then only be upgraded further north and further south. This would also have the advantage of bringing commuter traffic to the edge of the Adelaide CBD. The Mitchell Freeway just to the west of the Perth CBD is an example of how this might work.

As for upgrading Anzac highway to a freeway west of South Road, is this necessary ?
In terms of visual amenity I imagine it would be most undiserable.

True, but in any case, Anzac Highway between South Road and the City must be improved.

I believe the proposed port road tunnel should go from the train line all the way past Richmond road.

In addition to doing this tunnel, they should possibly have underground ramps branching out to west tce, to allow peak hour traffic to easily get to south road.

At the end of the day, south road should be modified to handle speeds of at least 80km/h.

Considering South Road will have an underpass of Sturt Road, wouldn't it make sense to simultaneously just extend the Tonsley line to Flinders already? The line comes so close, but is too far to serve any useful purpose. Failing that I would hope that they at least have the foresight to at least leave enough room to ensure minimal disruption is incurred should they extend the line in future. (I know foresight is a lot to ask for, but we can naively hope at least...)

yeah, they have set aside land to extend the Tonsley line to near the bottom on the Flinders Med Centre. Its such a simple and relatively cheap solution to extend the line so that all buses from the south stop at Bedford Int and then trains run into the city. How quicker would it be for southern residents
There was a proposal in the early 1990s to build an interchange but the liberal opposition were against it as they said it was the train to nowhere - sounds familiar.
Infact there is hardly any building on that triangle at Darlington/bedford park because it is located right above one of the largest fault line anywhere near Adelaide, so it needs to be earthquake proof.

I'm surprised no one has noticed the yellow crane sections on site now. South Western approach to the intersection, if you're interested in having a look.
