About 10 minutes ago, a Singapore Airlines (I'm fairly sure, has blue/yellow tail) flew right over the top of my house. Only lately have I been starting to notice the regular occurence of domestic carriers (Qantas, Virgin Blue) fly over my house - I'd say at bare maximum 300m above my rooftop, let alone an international carrier come into landing on the 12/30 runway. I'm beginning to believe that flight arrangements have changed at Adelaide Airport lately, because not only has there been an increased number of domestic carriers coming in over my house (utilising the 12/30) I've also noticed a lot more regional carriers use the 05/23 runway and are flying directly over the Adelaide CBD - at about 400/500m clearance over the streets.

18 Emiratis complete airline pilot programme

Dubai: Emirates has honoured 18 Emirati graduates from the latest batch of its National Cadet Pilot Programme, including one female - the first in the programme.
At a graduation ceremony in the auditorium of Emirates' new headquarters, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Group, presented trophies and certificates to the 18 cadet pilots who have completed a two-and-a-half-year programme.
"The cadet pilot programme requires dedication and hard work, and I am proud to see our cadets, all young and talented Emiratis, successfully complete the rigorous training courses. Emirates is committed to the development and recruitment of UAE nationals," said Shaikh Ahmad
"In line with the airline's fleet and route expansion plans, we expect a 100 per cent growth rate for the cadet pilot programme over the next two years. We will continue to open our doors to young and hard-working Emiratis who are keen on joining the cadet pilot training programme," he added,
At present, Emirates' flight deck crew includes 110 Emirati captains and first officers. In addition, 130-plus ab-initio pilots from the UAE are undergoing training with the airline.
Launched in 1994, Emirates' National Cadet Pilot Programme comprises a foundation course in Eng-lish and aviation science conducted in Dubai, over about 12 months. Cadets then spend a year at Flight Training Adelaide at Parafield Airport, Australia, to gain a commercial pilot's licence with a Multi-Engine Instrument Rating. In the third phase, spread over six months, the cadets train on flight simulators at the Emirates Training College in Dubai.
In line with the fleet and route expansion plans, we expect a 100 per cent growth rate for the cadet pilot programme over the next two years."

The Emirates aircraft that have been seen in Adelaide recently have been diversions, one due to fog in Melbourne and the other for a medical emergency. Whilst we are in discussion with Emirates regarding their future intentions, there is no link between these aircraft coming to Adelaide and them having a permanent presence

Given recent record oil price rises, I think Emirates will be cutting routes, not adding them. They way oil prices are going, I'm gonna be breaking the bank for my next OS holiday!

I heard on 5pm ten news that Adelaide will see an A380 land here
. Might happen as early as next month. Has any one else heard about this

I guess they have to test it here in case there's fog in Sydney or Melbourne and it needs to be diverted.

Hi Guys,
Adelaide is one of the main diversion airports for aircraft , should there be unsuitable weather conditions to land on the East Coast. For this reason, Qantas must put in place procedures to land an Airbus A380 at Adelaide in the event it is required for a weather or medical emergency. This involves the flight crew landing / taking off and negotiating the taxi ways at Adelaide Airport. In addition to this, Qantas ground crew in Adelaide must be trained in handling the A380 at our airport. And yes, the new terminal has been designed to accommodate an A380, and yes the runway is long enough (it takes off and lands in less distance than a 747).
So here is the good news:
Qantas will be flying the A380 into Adelaide in September (no passengers). It will be due into ADL at 0745 each day, and will stay for about 30 minutes while they do a crew change. The afternoon flight arrives at 1625hrs and does the same thing, crew change, then departure. On a few days we may even get an extra couple of flights around lunch time.
Definately one for the spotters to keep an eye out for. I will provide dates etc as soon as they are available.

I can already hear the NIMBYs complaining, but we'll just drown them with the noise of the massive A380.

The NIMBYs won't be complaining because the A380 is quieter than the 747...

Sucks that Qantas is closing the Jetstar base in Adelaide. Heaps of pilots and cabin crew to lose their jobs.

Gees this is news to me. How many people are going to lose their jobs.
Man this is rubbish i hate hearing when people lose theor jobs
