Great photos Pikey. I completely agree, these buildings look superb. Congratulations to JPE Architects. However, I do feel a little sad that the Hills House HQ (also by JPE) did not eventuate, as it would have looked stunning!

Have I missed something about the 'Berlin Wall'? in the second photo it seems to have been replaced by retailing with awnings out to and over KWS. Could be completely confused here but looks FAR better than what I remember.

Berlin Wall is gone from that location, and I think someone on a previous page mentioned the site had been given a bit of a make over, ie paint job.
Btw, something I keep wondering about when I see photos of Wave. Wouldn't it have been a better option to have the 'wave' facing King William street?
To me the building seems kind of back to front like this.

The adjoining property is probably the reason. If the Berlin Wall site was ever developed into a high-rise, Wave would be looking at its eastern blank wall. I don't think the occupants would appreciate that! Also remember walls on property boundaries can't have many windows.

Adelaide's $6m penthouse
RENATO COSTELLO

WELCOME to South Australia's most expensive apartment.
Dubbed the Grand Penthouse, this opulent abode being built in the Wave apartment and office tower on Gilles St, has reportedly smashed the record price for an apartment in SA.
Bought off the plan for close to $6 million, the price tag eclipses the previous record of $4.14 million paid for a penthouse in the Place on Brougham tower, North Adelaide, in 2007.
Wave joint venture partner Rick Graf, director of Graf International, said the split-level penthouse, which features 450sq m of living space, three bedrooms, a home-theatre room and sweeping views across the Adelaide Hills and east parklands, was snapped up two months ago.
While Mr Graf would not reveal the exact price paid for the apartment, citing client confidentiality, he said a contract had been signed in the high "five millions" .
The penthouse is still under construction and Mr Graf would not reveal the new owner's identity.
But he said the buyer was looking to establish a permanent base in Adelaide. On Friday, an exclusive roof-deck pool was delicately craned into the ninth storey of the $30 million Wave complex, which features four penthouses - including the Grand Penthouse - and six levels of offices.
Two penthouses are still for sale and are expected to fetch around $3 million each, with work on the tower expected to be finished by December.
Mr Graf, who developed the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, said the apartment sales showed there was still strong confidence in Adelaide property.
"The reason we are investing here is we have faith in the Adelaide market," the Sydney-based developer said.
"The South Australian economy has got defence and the resources sector as well, and is performing the best of the Australian economies.
"This shows in the record rents we are getting and the record sales prices."
His company, and joint venture partners Adabco, are also constructing the neighbouring 11-storey Edge office tower, due for completion next month.

Wave is definately my favourite apartment block to have gone up in the last 10 years. This city definately needs more towers like this one with curves on them

I went past this building today and they've added something to the lower part of the Edge building, looks similar to what they put on the lower levels of the Alpha Apartments. Looks pretty nice.
Probably wont be long until the crane is removed from the site.

I would assume the crane will finally be comming down this weekend, from the ACC website:
03 Oct to 04 Oct Gilles Street Closure
Location: Gilles Street Adelaide
Time: 07:00 - 18:00
Temporary closure of Gilles Street between Symonds Place and King William Street due to local construction works. Gilles Street will be closed to all traffic between 06:30am and 18:00 on Saturday and Sunday 3 & 4 October

They've been closing off that part of Gilles St most weekends for the past couple of months, diverting traffic up Symonds Place to Halifax St.

According to the tenders section of the Advertiser today CPA Australia requires a fitout of level 10 of the Edge building. I wonder if they will take out naming rights as well. It appears they will be moving from their office at 280 Pulteney Street.

The one part of this development I don't like is the southern wall. It does look a little bit ugly with those blue windows, for some reason. The rest is fantastic.

Development as of Sunday 13th Dec ~6pm 2009 - looking pretty sweet. Not being 'heightist' for the sake of it, but it would have looked awesome if Wave could have just had an extra couple of floors over Edge. Still a v. nice looking building from the South Terrace side.
