I have to admit i;m a touch disappointed (not with the project) I thought this would improve the travel time from CBD to RIverland but I think it won't make a difference for non-commercial transport.

That was not the aim of the expressway, but, once the Northern Connector is built, I think you will find that the travel time does decrease significantly. Being able to drive from Nuriootpa to Wingfield at 110km/h on dual-carriageway controlled-access road (what's that, about 70km?) would be a lot quicker than the current trip along Main North Road. Once the Superway is built, it will decrease some more, though only marginally.
cheers,
Rhino

I can't wait for it be finished since i will use it daily.

Does being excited by a road project make me a nerd?

The Northern Connector is not expected to be completed until 2016/17 and at this stage is unfunded.

That's unless it is to be brought forward ?

If anyone's going to the Open day on Saturday, can they please take and post some pictures? As I'm working and are unable to attend. Thanks!

Went over Angle Vale Rd overpass on the long weekend, all the lines are marked on the expressway at that point, looked all ready for driving on (with the exception of the "Danger - No Entry - Contruction Site" signs at the roundabouts). It certainly looks well ahead of schedule!

My grandparents live in a town called Greenock. Maybe next time when I go there, I'll be giving it a try!

Bridges over the Gawler River were far from complete as at March 30 (Nearmap image).

Also of interest is the spur on the northbound carriageway at the Port Wakefield Road end for the Northern Connector.

The Port Wakefield Road bridge itself clearly caters for both carriageways and the central rail corridoor of the Northern Connector, but there is no bridge on the northbound carriageway of the Northern Expressway where the proposed future railway will exit the expressway median.

On what day does it officially open to traffic? Went to my Grandparents today and saw some more roadworks not far from the Northen Expressway!

By the looks of things, that northbound ramp on to the expressway from Pt Wakefield road might be just temporary. According to the preferred route brochure for the Northern Connector (which admittedly is still in planning, so may change), there will be no northbound access to the Northern Expressway from Pt Wakefield Rd. At least Pt Wakefield Rd traffic will be allowed over the Northern Connector/Expressway in both directions (the original artists impressions showed only one direction - southbound I think), but traffic using Pt Wakefield Rd to access the expressway would have to get on to the Connector at the proposed interchange at Waterloo Corner.

I hope they put a bridge at St Kilda Rd over the Connector, but I fear they'll just close St Kilda Rd either side.

I would have thought it obvious they would bridge it?
