Private companies create wealth not Governments.
Government should only ever do what private companies are unable to do.
Private companies take out loans with other private comoanies. They also do many hours of free work to make their books work and to finish jobs they under quoted. They will also cause other private companies and banks to work for free if they go bust and just never pay bills.
Government employees take on zero financial risk, 100% of the work is always paid for in full.
Our country and state are better off getting private companies to go risk money for all these works.
It will not be cheaper in the long run if government were doing the work.

Yes, we know how well privatising South Australia's power network went, and Telstra too. However, this is really off topic for this part of the site. Why not head off to the Pub section to discuss economic philosophy there?

Following the media reports on 20 June about the risk of electric shocks from live metal balustrades, am I the only one who went away assuming this problem involved most, if not all of the new railings at all of the new stops?
In fact, I suspect the TV reports could be another example of over-inflated fake news - based on the observation that the huge majority of the balustrades are still in place, test trams are still running, and only one short length of railing seems to be getting rectification work.
The Channel 9 video showed a worker taking an angle grinder to one set of railings between the eastbound tram track and the passenger access ramp at the University / Pulteney St stop. This is the only location where contractors were still active working on railings today (Monday).
If this particular problem was so localised, it's definitely one of those situations of "s#it happens, and they picked it up straight away during the test phase", rather than "embarassing waste of taxpayer money by a complete shower of incompetents", which seems to have been many people's reaction (including my own) following the report about the balustrades.

Looks like August at the moment before there is any likelihood of services beginning seeing as there is at least another 2 weeks of testing(assuming there are no more problems.
Then there are least a further 2 weeks of driver training)!

For what it's worth, a small marquee tent was being set up (or packed up?) on the tracks at the east of the North Tce/Pulteney Street intersection. I went past on a bus so I've got no idea what the go is.

Good afternoon
The City Tram Extension Project would like to provide an update on the progress of works.
Test Trams are now complete.
Works scheduled over the weekend include:
• General re-instatement works will continue between 7am and 1pm Saturday
• Paving works along the southern side of North Terrace and re-instatement works from 7:30pm Sunday night
Some speed and lane restrictions will apply in the vicinity of the works. Lanes adjacent tram stops will be closed while works are undertaken, with one lane maintained in each direction.
No works will be undertaken tonight, Saturday night or Sunday during the day.
Thank you for your continued patience and ongoing interest in the City Tram Extension Project.

Not as yet.Reported on channel 7 news tonight that tram testing has finished, still no starting date or when driver training will commence.

Yup, the Adelaide Advertiser.....always go with the "tabloid" headline accentuating the negative......
If I were the East End Traders Association I would kick up a big stink about this......pointing out that the tram extension goes to the East End (hardly no-where, in fact in Adelaide terms, totally somewhere!!)
