I'm pretty sure they won't use the scoreboard during the footy season, there are three electronic screens so it won't be needed. By the looks of the virtual stadium, you will not be able to see it from the Eastern stand (the top deck is about two storeys higher) & will be too far away in the Southern stand.

Um

What?

In what recent sporting event at AO was the scoreboard NOT used???

It's now re-enforced so no it's not falling apart.

Right now it is never used.
Oh yeah.
Cos there's no sport on at the moment given it's a giant building site!
I'm pretty sure he was writing hypothetically about Shuz's future for the oval.

Why wouldn't they use the scoreboard during the football season? It has shown many a football score over the past 100 years or so, and it would like completely stupid sitting there not used during football season.

Also, the southern stand is not too far away from the scoreboard (I never had an issue reading it from the Bradman Stand).

Finally, by your logic they shouldn't use it in cricket season too because those same seats in the eastern stand that supposedly can't see the scoreboard in football season will not be able to see it in cricket season either.

The video screen (or at the very least electronic ribbons) will complement the old scoreboard in providing scores.

Anyone know if the video screens are definitely going to be new ones and if so their size.
The reason I ask is I hope they don't just move the old ones from AAMI here.....

They haven't and won't move anything from AAMI.
Screens will be 2nd-biggest in Australia behind SCG I believe. Bigger than current MCG ones.

They are installing new screens at the MCG this year in time for the Boxing Day test. 25m x 13m.
Their site says they will be the biggest video screens of any stadium in Australia.

At the end of the day who cares whose are bigger, as long as spectators in the stands can clearly see what's on them. That's the key factor.

Melbournites. They always care about who's is bigger. They come from a little state.
I don't think they really care if Adelaide has bigger screens. What really peeves them is that Sydney has bigger screens. And Sydney is bigger than Melbourne. And NSW is bigger than Victoria.

The Southern stand was & will be ready for the ashes. The saca announced a couple of weeks ago that the bottom deck of the eastern stand will be open too so the capacity will be close to 40,000 for the test. Does anyone actually watch sunrise?

regarding the size of the screens, I thought GWS Skoda stadium was home to the largest screen in the southern hemisphere. Its very rectangular. The new MCG screens must be huge, god knows how they'll fit them and im surprised they're upgrading them anyway. they are only what, 8 years old?

The one in the Olympic Stand is 8 years old. The one in the Ponsford Stand is from the original Ponsford Stand, which was installed in 1999 after the old one caught fire.

Age isn't important. There are bigger ones in Sydney, so Melbourne needs new, even bigger ones. It's Melbourne. It's a pissing contest.
