Things don't seem as hopeful anymore. A few guys on site today removing the mobile crane.
Disappointing, quite a few developments seem to be in mothballs at the moment...

Yikes,

Joy, can you shed any light on this at all? You mentioned news coming up around this tower?

Removing a mobile crane halfway during piling doesn't fill me with confidence though.

We'll wait and see I guess.

could they be removing it because they're expecting a crane to be erected in the near future?

i cant really come up with any other explanation, going by what joy said in her last post.

No piles have been laid in the Southern end of the plot though.

Are the excavators still on site Ben?

I spoke with someone on the team of architects on this project tonight, she says that even though there's very little going on on the ground they are VERY busy in the office working on the designs. She wouldn't elaborate more than that, I think she realised that she said too much already. (Tee hee for alcohol.)

She did say that the party on top of the carpark was 'expensive'.

Hrmz.

Maybe they are looking at scaling down the project!

I was thinking that but did'nt want to say it so as not to fuel negativity based on speculation.
How many floors would Hills take up? I thought it was 7. This may be the new resultant height, given the current leasing dryup across the nation.

If these rumours that this project will be downgraded to fit Hills solitary requirements, then such a situation fills me with despair.

Due to our recalcitrant height restrictions, sites in the Adelaide CBD on which you can build someting of a decent height >60m are quite few. As such, news that 57-69 Wyatt Street has been reduced to 8 levels and this one potentially to a similar height fill me with despair, because if we fill up our prime CBD sites with small crappy buildings; to me just seem like such a waste.

I suggested down sizing would occur when that article from Independent Weekly came out recently. It is the logical solution. Maybe they could put the car parking above ground to maintain the height instead of having the more expensive basement car parks and a lower height?

Down sizing is not great for scraper buffs but it's better than a vacant site. Plus I want to see some lower development between larger buildings in Adelaide otherwise we will have a very flat skyline in the future, something the current Development Plan encourages through the slow pyrmaid skyline build-up to the centre. Great density but no sharp skyline edge.

This needs to be re-assessed as we have already said many times, especially as the ACC have no problem breaking this rule for their own partnership Precinct development.

i'd prefer a shorter Hills House building be constructed than none at all. I've always had a problem with this one being EXACTLY the same height at the Optus building (and jammed up against it as well). Still plenty of room up the KWS corridor for future tall buildings...

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the likely option because digging sure came to a mighty rapid halt. I doubt Hills would want to see their project lose it's size and impact any more than we do. Of course if it had to be chopped they'd be forced to do it but I'm sure they'd rather have 3 or 4 levels of above ground car parking to keep the impressiveness of their new HQ. They're performing pretty well and are starting to build up their business in the US too so cash flow should be OK. Hills Hoists in Kansas! YeeeHaaaaa!

Any news yet Joy? It's not looking promising?
