They are back to work on the Darlington site and within a few months south Bound traffic will be using the lower sections of the road upgrade.

Construction should finish at the end of the year. It looks like they could probably get it completed far sooner than that.

I guess like T2T, "construction" and "finish" mean different things to different people, or sometimes the same people in different contexts. It's not necessarily the first time a Member of the Public is allowed to drive unescorted along the road. For the prime contractors, it is when they bank their last cheque, which will not be signed until after a lot of QA checks, and the landscaping plants have bedded in sufficiently that the ongoing owners have accepted responsibility.

Line marking has been changed at South Rd/Regency intersection - Initial observation seems to be quite an improvement on what was a bottleneck.

South rd has changed to 2 x lanes northbound, 2 x lanes right turn into Regency. Was previously 3 x northbound, 1 x right turn.

I wonder if that means there is traffic now using T2T and Regency Road that used to use the inner ring route and Main North Road or Churchill Road.

Don't know what the point was, it's only a very short term thing as work will start before long on the overpass..

There has always been a buildup of traffic in the right turn lane ever since superway opened. The t2t has made the backlog from regency all the way back to pym. I went through yesterday at 4pm and it did seem a lot quicker.

I use Regency Road and the T2T all the time to get to the airport, the beach, etc. - but traffic is becoming pretty bad at the Main North Road intersection. Muller Road/North East Road is also a shocking intersection if you're not simply going up or down North East Road.

The green right-turn light from South Road into Regency Road has always been generous, so I wonder by doubling the lanes if they will reduce the signal time.

Lower section on the Darlington South Road has just hit a major milestone, over 80% completed.

Does anyone else find it funny that Sturt Highway goes nowhere near Sturt? Would it be wise once its nonstop between Gawler West and Old Noarlunga to rebrand the Northern Connector etc as Sturt Highway or Southern Expressway

A while ago (1-2 years maybe) there was discussion on this thread about what the various sections of North-South Motorway should be called once the entire project is finished.

For those who aren't on Facebook, here's a post DPTI put up today.
DPTI wrote:Check out these impressive photos of the Darlington Upgrade Project!

The photos show the massive amount of progress that has been made to date, including excavation for the lowered motorway which is now 80% complete.
The soil that has been excavated to date is enough to fill 232 Olympic sized swimming pools!

Not really. After all, the Sturt footy team is based at Unley, nowhere near the Sturt Highway, nor Sturt Road, nor Sturt Street, nor the Sturt River, nor the suburb of Sturt, nor the City of Charles Sturt...

Captain Charles Sturt played a very big role in the exploration and settlement of South Australia. His exploration team were the first non-Aboriginal people to find the Murray River, and they rowed along it from NSW all the way down to Goolwa and back up. He later came to Adelaide by land, droving a herd of cattle. So the Sturt Highway is quite an appropriate name for the road.

When he got to Adelaide he became Colonel Light's successor as Surveyor General of SA. As well as laying out roads and land divisions etc he led several more exploration expeditions before eventually returning to England. If you want to know more about him, it's worth going to the Charles Sturt Museum at Grange.

I don't think so. Rebranding the Northern Expressway as Sturt Highway might be more sensible, but OTOH there are lots of other roads branching off it at Gawler.
