Nah mate. I was flying in from Sydney. It was a pearler of a day to fly in though. City is looking pretty schmick.

Certainly was. I got a good view of AAMI Stadium in the foreground with AO in the seemingly not too distant background while flying in from the west. From the air, the thought of spending 550 million on moving football to a stadium that is "just up the road" seems trivial. Good thing we live on the ground

New York Jets/Giants spent $1.6 billion to move to a football stadium literally next door, now thats trivial! Imagine if that happened here, I mean the complaining and whining about spending $550 million on a inner city venue compared to a suburban venue is already horrendous, let alone spending $1.6 billion to move next door!

Yeah but the difference is in NY they will probably get all the $1.6b back [or more] when they bulldoze the old stadium and put some skyscrapers on it or sell the land...

I doubt it, google '1 MetLife Stadium Dr, East Rutherford, NJ 07073' in google maps and you'll the see the stadium is a fairway out of manhattan and not much development around the stadium.
The state government will make its money back on Adelaide Oval. Adelaide Oval is going to attract a lot of people to the City and North Adelaide before and after an event. People will spend their money in pubs, clubs, shops and restaurants and will also attract extra tourism dollars. Rather than at AMMI Stadium people just go to the football and go home. I can see more from interstate coming to Adelaide to watch the football purely because Adelaide Oval is far more accessible than AMMI Stadium.

Commercial managers from each of the 18 AFL clubs visited Adelaide to get a first hand look at the redevelopment of Adelaide Oval. The two day meeting at the Adelaide Convention Centre is the first time this group has gathered outside of Melbourne, and includes a tour of the Adelaide Oval and a visit to McLaren Vale.
The meeting will give AFL club managers an insight into what will be on offer in Adelaide in 2014. AFL Commercial Operations Manager, Darren Birch, says interstate clubs are keen to explore new tourism opportunities at the Oval.
“Adelaide Oval’s re-birth will add new life to AFL matches in South Australia’s capital and will kick off a host of event options for commercial partners of the AFL and individual clubs.”
Some clubs organize large groups of supporters to attend certain away games. Adelaide Oval would be a much bigger drawcard than games at AAMI as for reasons given above.
Other attractions to fill out a weekend, such as the wine regions, are in close proximity. The upgraded Casino is also likely to appeal.

I somewhat loathe the AFL and how much they're cashing in on this development whilst contributing so little to it's birth. In comparison to it's contribution to grounds in Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne.

Keep in mind without the AFL this would not be happening. While the money they are providing for construction is relatively small ($5mil by memory?), the amount of time they have put into getting this up and running should not be underestimated. Detetriou said himself that getting cricket and football to work together was one of his best achievements.

In the weather reports on Ch. 9 they show panoramas of the capital city CBD's - Adelaide FAR better than the old representation - actually looks like it has more than 2 high rise bldgs - now a place packed with high rise (albeit lower than some places) and with the new AO closer to the foreground - looks huge and very, very impressive. Take a look if you can guys!.

It has been windy the last few days.
I went down and had a look from the Northern hill about a month ago and was very impressed. I watch alot of footy and was blown away by the compact nature of the venue. The stands are huge and close to the boundary. There wont be a bad seat in the place, and people will truly see AAMI as the old bowl pit that it is.
Picked my spot out on the hill too.

Southern plaza coming along very quickly. Almost flat ground now, roads etc. Roof cover around 60% done. The big screen in between the western and southern stand looked almost complete too when I drove past today.
The installation of seats on the top tier wouldn't be a long process would it?
They'll get the stand completed easily before early December.
