Some good looking plants off the front here might actually be a welcome change, if they can do it and not interrupt the heritage. Seeing plenty of buildings in paris with wisteria or other beautiful plants flowing off the front facade really makes them a sight to behold.Ursus Maritimus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 10, 2023 8:16 pmSeeing plants growing out of the GPO building's neoclassical facade reminds me of those paintings of Rome during the Renaissance, when ruins like the Colosseum were overgrown with weeds, sorry-looking remnants of a bygone age.

The side 'alley' looks like it will be pedestrian only to hook up with the plaza behind that leads through to Waymouth Street.
The concept picture shows it as outdoor dining. Probably a night-time setup like Peel Street.
The pick-up/drop-off area will be accessed off King William Street, with a circular turn-around under the mezzanine.
I presume the Hotel lobby entrance will be from the back, not through the old GPO building?

The King William Street entrance is going to be the entry point for the valet

That's a damn shame, not what pedestrians need there.

I'm arrogantly going to sit here and say that I (and a couple of others on this forum) told the naysayers so. Both with this and the neighbouring GPO Exchange/BHP building. Yes, they aren't spectacularly tall but the quality is there and ultimately THAT is what matters. Even if it's not been put forward yet, I have every bit of faith in what's yet to come for the remainder of the old GPO building.

These window prototypes were actually displayed offsite in Adelaide a while ago. Not sure if it was posted at the time.

They are still on site on the vacant piece of land next to West Franklin (behind the Cumby) on Elizabeth Street if you want to have a 1:1 look!

Ahain, simple design with high quality finish (if that is indeed what is happening here) isn’t hard.

We'll see, but I liked the glazing that I've seen so far.

Taken just now from my office. I have been out of the office for a month - this thing sure has risen up.
