They've painted over the tags.

That’ll be a never ending story

I’ve walked passed it twice and I swear it has had at least two seperate tagups and paintovers in the past three weeks. Maybe a black background releases one’s inner child towards chalk boards. The graffiti paint stands out so nicely.

They DEFINITELY are. There were stickers on Monday that had disappeared on Wednesday. I swear a touch-up job was done the week before too.

The amount of upkeep for an abandoned space is wild. Is there a reason why this project has talked? They seemed so confident three years ago.

covid + sanctions + demand for builders in the housing sector made everything a lot more expensive to build

Shocking, what a waste of the vacated site and loss of Adelaide Metro InfoCentre.
Renewal SA should have commandeered the site.

You’ve got to be kidding me. A beautiful tall building in a prime location reduced to a shit 10 story monstrosity. Pathetic.
Edit - they are retaining the original building too? Fuck me…..

Shit outcome, but doubt it’ll go ahead anyway considering the weird make up of the proposal - the top two levels only as a hotel? Luxury shops on the ground floor? As if. Also what high end hotel brand is actually going to want this building?
Would rather just see them demo it and it be a vacant site until another serious proposal comes in.

I don't understand why financing has been so difficult for so many projects, whether residential or hotel. There's unmet demand in this city. Surely they could be more ambitious on a prime site.

Out of all of the big tower announcements over the last five years, this is one that I was most excited about. The curved corner design and the overall scale of the building looked really good at least in the renders.
While I am pretty underwhelmed by this new design, I have a bad feeling it will get approved and possibly even built. A better outcome would have been for the current owners to sell up, cut their losses and then allowed for someone new to come in and develop the site correctly so that we don't end up with a poor band-aid solution.

I actually don't blame Loucas Zahos architects at all in this regard. They have made some attractive developments in the past. If you read between the lines within the article, it seems they are a bit embarrassed by their client's demands.
Loucas Zahos architects:
“This is a more modest development and much more achievable from the client’s perspective,” he said.
“[It] utilises, from an efficiency point of view, the existing quite strong bones of what’s there right now, and we’re building up on that.”
“Whilst less ambitious, I think for this particular client in the present economic environment it’s viable and a project that they’re keen and we’re keen to get on with,”
Translation:
"Equinox Property are being stingey and delaying this. We can do better but this is what they want!"
