At least that's what the SANFL wanted; back then of course the guys that were head of the SANFL had brains and forsight, now there's just a group of power hungry guys...
Tyler_Durden wrote:... the SANFL seem to cop the brunt of peoples criticism while soccer and cricket don't. Yet the SANFL were the only sport of the three that actually built their stadium out of their own pockets, the others relying on public money.
Actually, that land was
given to them and if my facts are right, the government also
gave them the money to build it. Nowadays, the SANFL is asking for even
more money, whilst some prime real estate that is (sort of) up for grabs is going to have hospital put on it when the are many other places next to the CBD which are more logical places to build hospitals (see my previous post).
Tyler_Durden wrote:You know, I don't actually blame the SANFL for looking after themselves. They are where they are financially due to good management...
Not the current board...

Hey UrbanSG
The last six posts have been about Keswick, AAMI, SANFL. SACA etc.
Be f***king consistent and chastise those wayward members!!
Oh, and I'm sorry for making my first post in this thread, 'tongue in cheek' and flippant.

Why?
When a topic goes 24 pages there is bound to be some deviation to the original topic. Those who don't want to read it don't have to.

Funny how he doesn't mention a new stadium to be built when he gets into office. And his stakehold in BHP really shows.
Looks like I'm still Voting Labor...

He did mention the stadium, several times.
He also teased with his "exciting new plans" for the Torrens Lake precinct several times but no details.
Minister Hill kind of pwnd MHS on the costing and time difference between a new MJN and rebuilding the RAH on site, however.

No, he said "eventually there will be a new stadium". Didn't say he was going to do it right away.

He's never said he'd build it right away. No one has said that it should be built that soon, there's just no justification to build it before maybe 2015. The only people who have been calling for it now NOW
NOW! are the poorly informed people with their hearts in the right place on S-A.
Basically MHS and Rann have given us the choice between either:
MHS: A rebuild of the RAH on site (which will take over a decade and be disruptive) + An entertainment precinct on the railyards/Adelaide Gaol/Police Barracks sites + A stadium somewhere amongst the hotels, theme park and what ever else he is "planning" for the site.
Rann: A new hospital on the railyards (just the railyards not the Adelaide Goal and Police Barracks) somewhere in the next decade + not much else fun.

Can't the politicians see that there are MORE than two places to build a hospital? At the moment, we've got Mike Rann wanting to build it on a riverfront area with so much potential and then we've got Martin Hamilton-Smith wanting to rebuild it on the current site!
What about other areas in/around the CBD. Let's go through a few of them:
Keswick Military Baracks; a good spot, but National Trust won't like us destroying the buildings.
Clipsal Site; also a good spot, can't see any reasons NOT to build it there, can someone tell me a few.
Victoria Park; let's not go there... We should put our new airport there, there's more than enough space since the grandstand plan was knocked back
.
Land to the east of Ellis Park; Now THERE'S an idea. Think about it, we have the train line going right past it (a train station could be set up to service both it and Santos Stadium); we have buses going all around that area; there's plenty of open space nearby that can be turned into a park with trees that can absorb all the CO2 being released from APPA member's mouths when they protest about us 'invading' parklands areas
; and if we decide to extend the tramline to the airport down Sir Donald Bradman Drive, well I don't think I need to speak anymore.

Sorry about that. I meant the
west of Ellis Park. You know, between the park and the trainline.

Oh! You mean the dust/mud bowl of a carpark behind Ellis park? It's used for Glendi and whatever's occupying Ellis Park from time to time. There's a few places like that in the Parklands that would be okay for a hospital. But I'm starting to warm to the idea posted elsewhere that the Marj can be built on the railyards on North Tce and an entertainment precinct can still be developed around it. There's plenty of room (if we don't have a stadium), and what most people go on about is the "Lake frontage" which would still be on the other side of the Marj. Access from one to the other would be via the footbridge via the train station and the business there would benefit from the added patronage from the hospital.
