I’d forgotten just how bad the plan was for this.

Utterly disgraceful .. so would they have needed heritage approval to this and if so, how they got it?

I also presume they're opening up a new entrance into that retail space from inside the plaza - between Laubman & Pank and the jewellers:

Both Grenfell and Currie Streets as well as Gawler Place are looking like a dump.
1. The '77 Grenfell' building looks run down. All the spaces on the ground floor i.e. Cha Bar, Experimac, Suncorp and Lucky 7 are now vacant.
2. Where Cotton On was at Regent Arcade - disused since 2017.
3. The former Adelaide Metro Infocentre - supposed to be replaced with the hi-rise building which is now currently 'on ice'.
4. Former 'Arturo Taverna' building where Dakling was - sitting dormant since 2019.
5. Former Avant Garde building - still a 'sitting duck' since 2018.
6. Former 83 On Currie cafe - sitting dormant since 2018.
7. Former Allans Music on Gawler Pl - still for lease since 2018.
8. Former Tabletop & Kitchen on Gawler Pl - an eyesore since it closed down in 2007.
9. Parc Arcade is almost dead - Coco House (where General Trader was) is now vacated.

Gawler Place is a little disappointing so far - especially the stretch to the northern side of Rundle Mall which has been turned from a car park entrance into another car park entrance. All reference to it being a shared space have been removed and it feels no more pedestrian-friendly than it did prior to the works.
Presumably the pandemic hasn't helped but the number of vacant retail units along this stretch seems to have increased and there's absolutely no sign of any efforts being made to find tenants for Parc Arcade. I hope there is some sort of long term plan for this area - if they're waiting on the Gallerie and Gawler Chambers developments to happen then it might end up being a bit of a nothing space for another couple of decades. A bit of a waste of a prime spot in my opinion.

Agree strongly with this. It’s a shame the gallerie proposal seems to be going nowhere, because it would’ve been great for the street.

The current state of both Currie and Grenfell Streets is an embarrassment. Looks so rundown in parts for what is meant to be a key business and public transport hub for the city.
And
still after all these years, not a single dollar or any serious plans towards improving it.

Yeah, western section of Currie Street between Leigh & Morphett streets is looking pretty grotty these days, even with the Sofitel there to spruce things up. I remember walking down around there one day and seeing a sign on a building advertising for some bondage/s&m place or something. Certainly needs some improvement, imo

Upper level of Regents Arcade is a little out of the way, wonder how they'll make it so people know it's there.
