But then you need to consider that putting cranes up into the the air also poses a potential hazard. It's a key reason why you never ever see tower cranes at airports, as well as the fact that they can interfere with air traffic control (only at airports), and they use strand jacks to lift everything instead. There's still certainly space to increase the height limit a bit though. Franklin Street has a lot of potential to provide a key linkage point between the retail and business district north of the GPO and the retail areas near the Central Market, but it doesn't necessarily need buildings higher than 20 floors.

it's my understanding that separate AAL approval is required for the building height AND the crane height. Obviously the crane is not there for the long term and permission is generally granted for them to temporarily pierce through air safety height limits...

Boom is just about on.

I would not be surprised if this crane is in use by lunch time today.

Does anyone have any news as to whether the other 4 towers will eventuate - would be fantastic to see but my constant perusals of the AFR make further developments look worrying.

I saw this crane being put up the other day, first thing that came to mind was "damn wish I had a camera and some spare time to take photos for S-A".

This might sound weird, but I really like the look of this crane
