I think the next step towards creating a better pedestrian friendly Adelaide would be some sort of closing off rundle st and extending the mall to incorporate Rundle St...or some sort of blocking off that main intersection at the end. Could not agree more. Or at least make it a one way street. I wish they would also make Rundle Street more pub/club friendly, as in encouraging other retail shops which do not add to the scene to move to another location (as in clothing ect). But thats just my thoughts.

I think the idea panel idea is a great one, ofcourse if it were bigger and maybe even on both sides it would be exellent. Great idea, can't wait to marvel at it on a friday/saturday night when travelling the streets between clubs/pubs.

clothing does add to the feel of Rundle Street to an extent i think...its shops like Ted's Cameras, Diamond Cameras and the souvenir shop next door, the scout shop, super elliots and target that make Rundle look less aesthetically pleasing and cosmopolitan.

Maybe I was wrong on the clothing, up market clothing may suit the street. The shops you named definately should go though. BTW when does construction begin on this?


Just another RANDOM idea I have (I have so many), wouldn't it be sweet if one of the AFL clubs opened a themed pub/club in town. Collingwood has done it with good results. Not a player, but a club. Like the Power Inn, Or the Crows Hotel. Something like that.

theres the crows tavern at aami stadiam, i think thats like a hotel (pub) could be wrong

Rundle St has not only the Scout Outdoor Centre (specialist outdoor gear) but also Paddy Pallins (specialist outdoor gear), Mountain Designs
(specialist outdoor gear), Flinders Camping (specialist outdoor gear), Annapurna (specialist outdoor gear), can you see a trend here? This is a precinct for this sort of shop - if you don't like it, that's too bad, but to the people who frequent these stores it makes sooooo much sense to have them in the one street, and IMO they fit in well with the cosmopolitan feel of the street. The people who shop at these stores often do so in groups (i know - I've been doing it for years) and then go out for a drink or a feed together in the same area.

.. and a lot of the stuff in these shops is not cheap .. so at least the street is bringing in people who are happy to spend their hard earned cash and then spend more on fine dining or a cool beverage .. its better than a cheap as chips store!!!

More clothes shops would be cool as well .. make it a mini Chapel Street?!

i suppose you could argue that, but personally i dont think they really fit in with the boutique shopping and cafe feel that parts of rundle street have.

Or you could develop some class and enjoy the fine foods to be had further down Rundle Street at San Giorgio's and the Falafel House!
