Any use of it will be as a lease

Without opening it to public offers that is impossible to say. If the Crows offer was absolutely astounding then yeah, take the deal. If it involves lots of compromises then lets see if we can get a better deal for the city before committing.

This kind of proposal should not even be entertained - in any form.

The Crows are a private entity. Private entities have no place in the Parklands. The Parklands are a public asset to be enjoyed by all people.

So I guess you're opposed to the Casino expansion and Festival Plaza then?

I've got no idea about the highest boards, they're closed on the weekend when I'm there (they generally have water polo on in the diving pool, or some other activity), but I've certainly seen the lower ones open.

I have a friend who works there. It's not that bad. Pretty convenient of the media to highlight its condition. This is known as an 'availability heuristic'.

I'm taking the reports regarding the centre's viability at face value. It's an issue that's been covered in the media for years, long before the Crows proposal was even a thought bubble. I tend to trust that more than anecdotal impressions of visitors to the place. And I certainly trust it more than the idea that there's been a campaign to mislead people.

It's possible for the center to be pretty decent and also losing money. Among it's many issues are the fact the location kind of sucks for anyone who isn't driving there.

I don't think the location is awful, but it could certainly be better connected. The Frome St bikeway will help (if it's ever completed...), as would the tram up Prospect Rd. Perhaps an easy change would be to have the 98 city connector bus run up to Barton Tce West instead of Buxton St, giving people in the city a closer connection.

Much more detail in the InDaily article just posted. Relevant tidbits that indicate final design is far from settled:

Fronting Adelaide City councillors and a packed public gallery, Crows chief executive Andrew Fagan and City Collective architect David Cooke last night said they were unable to state how much space would be used for public swimming pools, as the council was yet to finalise a needs analysis or provide the club with specific building guidelines.

Fagan told reporters this morning that Ernst and Young had conducted an “economic impact study” on the value the football club brings to the Adelaide economy, as well as the return from the proposed centre’s construction.

“The reason we couldn’t be more specific about that (the figure) is (because) until the needs analysis is complete and we define the scope and scale of the aquatic centre you can’t actually complete that piece of work,” he said.

But this is what's proposed so far:

The proposed new facility – dubbed by the club as a “sport and community centre” – would return over 6000-square metres to the park lands and would be split into three sections: the club’s training and administration area, an education zone from which the club would run its community programs and a public aquatic space that the club would use “on an occasional hire basis”.

The proposed centre would also house an amphitheatre, lecture spaces, multipurpose education rooms, and a café, a gymnasium, crèche and underground car park.

It would reach a maximum height of 16-metres – compared to the current centre’s 21-metre height – and would be surrounded by 750 linear metres of new paths and 400 linear metres of resurfaced paths for “increased connectivity” with O’Connell Street.

Under the club’s plan, existing ovals on Barton Terrace West would be upgraded to a new “high-quality, AFL-standard” oval similar to Adelaide Oval, while the ovals on Park 2 would remain untouched and unfenced.

The centre itself would also remain unfenced, but would instead be “screened” by 100 new trees and landscaped gardens.

Personally I don't care wether the crows go there or not . They may not be the best fit. I'm pretty sure the council want to wash themselves of the centre though.

In my opinion the former RAH area would be a better spot for a new city aquatic centre/crows ground. It could be integrated with the botanic gardens. The current site should be reserved for an freeway interchange , use it as a park n ride for now with free bus service between park n ride and the city.

The aquatic centre/crows hub would be ideal in the former RAH area because it has access to tram services, bus services, close to restaurant/cafe strip so people can linger after a swim, close to Uni SA, University of Adelaide, next to Adelaide Botanic High School and near many private schools.
