its a bit of a nothing article because the bridge will connect thousands of people to the riverbank and the network of walkways that he describes. The bridge will compliment the connection of walkways between Hindley Street - North Tce and the riverbank, not worsen it.

And how else does he plan for up to 40,000 people at once walking back to the city, freeze Torrens Lake on matchdays so we walk on it, a chairlift maybe? :wallbash:

He talks about a a pontoon bridge but, he's forgetting about the rowing in the area.

Dullards.
Expect nothing else from The Advertiser. An absolute shitrag... hello to any lurking News Limited "journalists", by the way.

Slow news day?
Darian Hiles gets to bag the Footbridge. Pointless.

I still remember the ACDC Concert at Adelaide Oval when the crowds exited the Oval - masses of happy rock fans swamping the King William St footpath and spilling across multiple lanes of the roadway. The Torrens footbridge provides another option and fans can spread out to multiple options for post event/match activities or transport.

The footbridge will make a huge impact on the current divide for pedestrians, cyclists etc imposed by the Torrens, connecting both sides of the river and expanding choices for recreation, social activities throughout the year.

Looking at his CV Hiles deserves a published opinion but he's obfuscated facts to push his (U.P.?) agenda. Vee challenged the 'only used 40 hours a year' theory and by my count there's 23 AFL home games, finals, possible SANFL matches, state cricket, international cricket, tennis, shows at the Oval/Memorial Drive and tourists/joggers who will use it for the views - and convenience. As the guy behind Sydney using the Harbour Bridge for fireworks he should appreciate the platform/lightshow opportunities of any bridge.

I like the Tron walkway renders but do we urgently need to move people from Hindley Street to a new Luna Park? Dazzleland/Downtown were closer to the public mass and still folded. The idea of shops/galleries/eateries/displays beneath the plaza is interesting but we had our Luna Park moment 80 years ago then shipped it off to Sydney. Also wondering how much the walkways compromise first and second floors of buildings - surely council has an obligation to the owner?

A lot can change in 80s (or even 10) years, surely.

Not that I would want Luna Park back in Adelaide. It's very old-fashioned. However I certainly would like to see something fun in Adelaide. However I haven't seen any suggestion that anyone is even thinking of building any serious tourist attractions here. Have I missed something?

Can we expect some sort of lighting show in the torrens?

Don't think we can "expect" it, but it would be nice.

Yeah true, but it's the centrepiece, laser shows and the like should be encouraged... Probs wont happen though...

A water and light show in the Torrens would be absolutely unique in Australia, and a huge drawcard to bring people to the riverbank and activate it at night.

Have a show every 30 mins from 6pm to 10pm or something (to midnight on fri/sat).

Gives people an added incentive to use the proposed restaurants and cafes in the upgraded casino and in front of the convention centre.

Similar to how Northern Lights drew people into the city just to have a look.

yeah this was discussed a while ago and was initially a musical fountain was mooted in the original concept plan of the riverbank plan, its what we need something to draw crowds in, but i guess it may or could come later once there is other drawcards down there i.e cafes, cinemas casino expansion, which none has even started yet.

on another note, does anybody know when the wetlands and mist fountain will be done as it was i think was in the federal govs budget 2 years ago, surely that would be almost ready to be started soon :?:
