I assume these concrete blocks that appeared in front of the Myer Centre are bases for the scaffolding? Image

Kathmandu has closed down its second city store on Rundle Street, to be replaced by Cue and Veronika Maine. This follows the recent openings of Assembly and Viktoria & Woods on the street. It feels like the retail mix is improving, which should hopefully improve the footfall for all.

Still several noticeably vacant shopfronts, however, including the former Scout Outdoor, Anapura, Bauhaus and Taste Baguette.

Henry Bucks are advertising for positions for a new CBD store.
Currently fitting out at 99 (I think?) Gawler Place, next door to Hello sarnie.

Do you mean where Anytime Fitness is? Or where HSBC used to be (55 Grenfell)?

If Gawler Plc, that's a super random spot!

This vacancy, on North side of Hello Sarnie.

Theres no fixtures as yet, but "Coming Soon" signage is up.

It does seem random, theres obviously no similar retail close by really.

A bit like Georg Jensen on Grenfell street. I always thought that was a weird spot.

Going back a few posts, RM Williams' potential relocation to the Ted Baker space is another blow for the northern end of Gawler Place. This area seems to be dying a slow death and I can't help feeling the recent streetscape improvements were a) half-arsed and b) not capitalised on.

Quite an expensive half-arsed at $18 million! For reference, the first (and to date only) stage of the Vic Square upgrade was $24 million.

I actually think the North side is pretty nicely done. The problem is the majority of the street is occupied by a behemoth car park and vacant arcade as well as two decaying blights (Chambers and Gallerie). Hard to see a connected strip being sustainable until these are addressed.

I think it's definitely the major issue. It just sucks the life out of the street and makes any remaining businesses (except for those closest to the mall on the east side) feel isolated and easy to miss. I'd add the side of H&M to the list too, which does nothing to engage with the street.

As for the $18m... let's remember that the bulk of that, and the primary reason for the project, was necessary services upgrades underground. The public realm upgrade was just bonus.

Especially seeing as their entrance door here has been permanently closed and shuttered for at least a year now.

I'm confused as to what's going on with the UPark mall. At one stage it seemed that ACC were ejecting tenants in preparation for some sort of refurbishment but given the time that's lapsed it appears they just jumped ship. Plus they cored big holes in every concrete panel - I hoped it would be for a light feature of some sort but perhaps it was just for structural testing.

And.....I've mentioned it before but ACC also subtlety removed this section's designation as a shared space leaving the roadway as nothing more than a busy car park entrance road.

The car park at street level doesn't take up much room besides the entry/exit which isn't that large.

Its a busy street pedestrian wise in my experience.
Never seen the RM Williams or Rodd & Gunn stores with more customers then staff.

Perhaps the problem is the type of businesses. Museum and Library across the road, multi level car park right there, and Rundle Mall at the end. Businesses should be thriving there.

The arcade is dead. Last thing I remember on the street side of it was a homewares store? A boost juice type store inside, and a beauty salon.

They should just turn that arcade into small boutique offices and close off public access for the car park from it. Been a while since I used that car park but I'm pretty sure there's access to the Myer Centre on one of the levels, level 3 I think?

Not sure if that has been mentioned already but I noticed that Nordburger in Chinatown has closed.
