I have heard that Tiffanys is moving into the Gallerie
which has sat mostly unused since John Martins closed in 1998
Maybe they are going to turn the old arcade
into a high end fashion destination, which would make
sense considering it is next to David Jones

The Gallerie is in no shape at all for any kind of retail. I went in there on Sunday, to look at The New New contemporary art exhibition which is using the space. The amount of decay in there is incredible - the whole thing has been completely stripped back to bare (and very rough) concrete. I must admit, for an exhibition space, it looked amazing - and I wish CACSA could set up permanently in there (they're only in there for 2 weeks). A blue stone cottage in Parkside is not the ideal home for them...

It would take huuuuge amounts of money to get it up to anywhere near the kind of standard Tiffany would demand.

Sorry to disappoint the fashionistas but IF Zara was to open in Adelaide, it would be at least their 3rd store in Aus. They have already secured sites in Melbourne and Sydney, with the Melbourne store actually on-track to open before the Sydney one.

And whilst I am not privy to any confirmed news, I don't think Tiffany will be looking at Adelaide any time soon. Anyone visiting Melbourne should take a look at their temporary store in Collins Street, only a drop punt from the old one which is currently being refurbished (i.e. completely gutted and rebuilt). Rumour has it that the temporary store still cost them over $1M in fitout and relocation costs! Not bad for a store that will only be in existence for less than 12 months. They just don't see an Adelaide investment on the high side of $4M being recouped at the required rate.

On a brighter note I have posted previously that there is a much bigger brand looking at space in the redeveloped Harris Scarfe site. They are still in negotiations and yet to commit but plans are all drawn up with them in it. I will keep you posted.

FYI - Uniqlo, H&M and Superdry are all looknig at the Aus market but will roll out Sydney, Melbourne and Brisvegas as priorities with Perth and then Adelaide to follow.

You could be right, fences have been erected along part of Gallerie Arcade on North Terrace.

That fencing is for safety - the stonework on the building with the "fingering leaf" is deteriorating in places, and has been braced to prevent collapse.

Gallerie is worth a look - open until Sunday for the "New New" art exhibition, also interesting.

will be awesome if we get Zara. Tiffany and Co. would be a great addition also. H&M though? no thanks. id rather seen an Urban Outfitters - it would do well with the Australian market.

Late notice, I know, but there's a public forum today in Rundle Mall about the masterplanning for the Mall. It's at the Art Gallery today (Sunday) from 2-4:30
Rundle Mall Masterplan Public Forum

The Adelaide City Council (ACC) and the Rundle Mall Management Authority (RMMA) have recently engaged a Consultant Team to develop a Masterplan to re-position Rundle Mall. Having completed the background research stage and now with a number of workshops to provide for various stakeholder groups, we also look to the community to guide the project forward. If you have an interest in the role that Rundle Mall plays on the local, national and international stage, we invite you to participate in a fun and dynamic workshop forum to hear your ideas and how you would like to see Rundle Mall in the future. We strongly believe that the wisdom lies within the community when it comes to the places they live, work and play and we need your thoughts on what makes the Rundle Mall precinct special now, and your ideas to see it into the future. Village Well, a Melbourne based Place Making consultancy will facilitate the forum. With a number of prizes available for the most constructive ideas put forward on the day, this is an opportunity to share your views, connect with other community members and be part of developing a shared vision for Rundle Mall.

There's a cool looking bike shop that's opened up on Ebeneezer Place - Treadly Bike Shop. Looks like they specialize in town bikes / commuter bikes, I must go have a closer look.

Another thing that people likely haven't seen is that at the foot of Westpac House a cafe has opened in that strange glass geodetic dome that seemed to once house some stock trading facility. I had a coffee there, can't say it was terribly good, but if you're in town during the week and looking for an unusual location for a drink ...
