Elenberg Fraser are the architects.

Actually - The Buchan Group are the architects

Actually there is no architect yet:
Planning documents show the design of the expansion has been prepared by The Buchan Group. However, a spokesperson for Adelaide Casino told ArchitectureAU the project is out to tender and an architect has not yet been appointed.

From Skycity annual report released today. Sounds like another delay to me...
 While early ground works are expected to commence by the middle of the year, commencement of core
construction of the expansion is unlikely to be before December 2016

In Adelaide's defence Canberra casino is pretty horrible, although referring to Canberra and architecture/entertainment in the same sentence is a bit of an oxymoron. I agree completely with your sentiments about the need for a revamp, but to be honest this design is absolutely awful. The building itself is average and does nothing for the festival theatre or the railway station. This sort of building would be fine in plenty of other locations around the city, but this particular site deserves a lot more than what is being offered.

The Nishi Building / Hotel Hotel, which won World Interior of the Year and International Project of the Year, begs to differ.

As do new and old parliament houses, but they are all too few in a brutalist paradise.

What's wrong with brutalism?

Nothing is wrong with brutalism- in moderation. When it dominates as much as it does in Canberra though it is bloody awful.

The Hotel Hotel's foyer is a fire hazard. As a building architecturally it has not much to offer. The other interiors are what attracts the most. Maybe will give it a pass since that's in Canberra. Hope those designing the casino expansion are noting the comments here.

Cheers

Your comments made me actually visit the Adelaide Casino for the first time since 2003.

Never before have I been to a less inspiring mess. Everywhere is pokies and ugly carpet. There's the occasional table game poked into a corner and a poker area that looks like a load of fold-away card tables in a community gymnasium. Two of the bars look like a last minute pop up bar in a corner or up against the wall. The others are a bit nicer, as are the restaurants (excluding the cafeteria style one which looks like something out of a 1970s department store).

They've expanded into the old railway station's grand foyer and taken all the 'grandness' away.

I was even prepared to loose a few dollars in the name of research >.>' but wasn't inspired to gamble at all. The whole décor and use of space just made me want to keep moving. Nothing felt comfortable, nothing made me want to sit down and waste cash, nothing felt welcoming. I'd rather play pokies in a local pub (and I find poker machines the dullest of past times).

(To let you know my perspective on this; I've been to casinos from Vegas to Europe and even the original SkyCity in Auckland. And I remember the old Adelaide Casino.)

Bring on a complete gutting and refit included in this expansion please.

Now you understand why I've said before that they should turn it into a museum or something, and build an entirely new purpose built casino complex somewhere else along the river front. It's a complete waste of a grand old building.

Couldn't they use the original railway station building for an upmarket 5 star boutique hotel. Put all the casino activity in the new building already proposed?

I've always thought the casino would be great along Victoria square, especially if they block the roads surrounding the square, the casino plus a heap of restaurants and bars spilling out into the square would really improve the area and make the centre of our city a place people actually want to go

In Skycity's interim report released today they have announced the redevelopment is UNLIKELY to start before 2017... No surprise here... they will keep delaying it until the government steps in.
