The original site, while crammed, was a viable option for the WCH.
But that was the previous government, and a new Government cannot agree with that...
The fuss that was made about an entertainment centre on parklands (ie a car park) was a major election issue. But pnce they chose the Police Barracks as for WCH, it set in place a domino effect.
The theft of parklands for this is appalling. We will never get them back.

This is a shocking plan that keeps getting worse.

I agree with the connection between the Gaol and the Weir but I do think there's an opportunity here to open up the Gaol from Bonython Park - already a very popular destination so there's potential to make a wider precinct made out of it if it's done right.

It’s not clear to me why there has to be a separate car park building. Why can’t the nWCH have basement parking? The RAH contains over 2000 spaces.

Time and money, most likely.

Lol, saying they're making more of the parklands accessible with a plan that involves a net loss of public access to parklands.

Where’s the public transport access? A dinky bus stop on port road? And that car park is terrible…
Having just come back from Europe and enjoying the incredible public transport systems there it’s just disappointing that this hospital is designed for cars and pretty much nothing else…
No mention of it yet, but I’d be pretty surprised if they didn’t build a new team stop out the front of the new hospital.

No mention of it yet, but I’d be pretty surprised if they didn’t build a new tram stop at the intersection with Gaol Rd. Better still, build a new train station (relocate Mile End?) between new WCH and the RAH, with an entrance off Port Rd. Makes complete sense to me.

The government's so-called
site review group specified that the Barracks option should have:
An additional tram stop on Port Road near George Street is provided and all tram services extended to the Entertainment Centre. As the O‐Bahn and Hills bus services currently terminate at North Terrace, they are extended past the new WCH

I have no faith that the government will change course from its chosen location, but they should absolutely still buy this block and manage its development as a cohesive part of the so-called BioMed City. We need to do better at reaping aglomeration benefits.
