Here's three photos I took last week, from three slightly different angles (9/8/2022).

Surprised to see what looks like a solid wall facing Flinders Street at ground?

Aside from the blank wall at ground level, I have always liked this cluster. Its amazing what some different angles and materials can do to make the site look more interesting, and have a better presence...even look taller than actual height.

The finishing son this let this down. That semi blank wall on both sides looks to me to be unfinished where he rest of the building looks quite elevated

Interesting that its a concrete wall, render showed something else.
Wonder what the story is..?

Cost cutting most likely.

That render was before the DA was revised to have a shorter west tower and taller east tower. Maybe some cost cutting has happened in between, but by that same token, developments tend not to live up to the render either. Let's just wait for this to be completed before final judgement.

Was just having a chat with a mate about this building - they should commission an artist to paint two huge murals on the grey sections of the eastern blank wall. Similar to what's been done with silos in country towns. It would be a massive improvement compared to how it looks now and would be an attraction in itself.

Could it be that they just haven't installed the cladding on the blank walls yet?

I'm actually not against this idea, the group handling the cluster around Hurtle Square have been making the most of their blank walls with various murals. There's something charming about it. Rundle Street itself once had a lot of those sorts of murals on blank walls when the East End Markets were still a thing but most were covered over with the infill developments that eventually went up.[Shuz] wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 12:28 pmWas just having a chat with a mate about this building - they should commission an artist to paint two huge murals on the grey sections of the eastern blank wall. One of the other pages on here had a picture of a new mural in Melbourne Street on a new building with a blank wall. There are also several big ones in Port Adelaide.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 2:18 pmI'm actually not against this idea, the group handling the cluster around Hurtle Square have been making the most of their blank walls with various murals. Finally Adelaide decides to paint the blank walls.
Not ideal but hey

Seems to me they could've gotten away with either? The concrete had some visual interest and lent an industrial look to it. Maybe the downside being that there's a bit too much of it. On the other hand, the painted finish breaks it up a bit and seems less blank to the eye. Colour contrasts also work well with the glass (the grey at least).
They've got a good builder - a half arsed one would've talked the developer out of the expense of the paint.
