Does anyone know if there is any works to the facade of the GPO building as part of the works? You would imagine at the minimum it would get a decent clean surely.

Looks cute.

Wish they did a lot more with BHP though

Great photo!

I really like the simple, modern but high quality finishes of both BHP and the Mariott Hotel as it creates a nice backdrop for the GPO building to really stand out. It will be quite the striking corner once the development and facade restoration of the GPO is complete. A nice juxtaposition between heritage and sympathetic modern development (as opposed to the pod filled City Central towers which are now thankfully obscured!)

Thanks for the pics! I don't get down to Vic Square very often so it's been great to see this one go up. It's looking really good in my opinion.

Looking pretty spot on the renders:

I'd suggest this is one of the rare cases where the final delivered outcome is better than the renders. The highly reflective, primarily blue facade is better than the original champagne colour as it allows great contrast for the GPO and surrounds to stand out. If it was the original colour, from a tonal perspective it would have been too similar to the sandstone, effectively "absorbing" the form of the clock tower.

I reckon this is a stunningly simple, and very high quality outcome!

Crane must be coming down in coming weeks I’d think.

Thank God it's turned out so well. It could have easily been an eyesore.

On a trivial side note, the GPO clock tower is stopped at 6:16. I'm guessing the construction works started at 6 AM one day and someone went up to switch off the mechanism a short time later. Surely they'll turn it on again when the project is complete.

I wish the glass was a champagne colour than the blue. Some diversity in glass colour in the city would have been nice for once. But it is an otherwise simple, but impressive addition to the cityscape.

Looks better than I thought. Another example where semi decent gladding elevated a basic project

Does anyone know if the GPO bells will ever chime again? I can understand if they stop them at night but what about during the day? I can't remember the last time I heard either of the GPO or Town Hall bells chime and I work on Waymouth St just behind the GPO so surely I would hear either of them going.
