It’s not bad and looks pretty decent in person but again, I lament the missed opportunity of what could have been.
I don't see how this is a missed opportunity when it has turned out better than half of the buildings that are going up in Adelaide at the moment.
Just because its turned out better then expected, or better then most other buildings going up, that doesnt mean its a good outcome.
The piss poor designs we mostly see here shouldnt be used as a measuring stick.
This corner should have seen something of significance design wise. What we have is a boring old box.

I think the design isn’t too bad, it’s not the most imaginative building but if it was only a few more floors taller (around 100m tall) I think it would have been a lot better because at the moment it just blends in with the surrounding buildings as they are all pretty much the same height.

Yep, agreed. About 15-20 metres more height and a tad less bulk and this would be improved immensely. Even so, I like it and as I said a while back- we dodged a bullet by not going with any of those alternative design concepts.

Picture of the mobile crane Saturday afternoon. They were still working on the tower sections after dark 6pm Sunday night.

Great picture there Ben. Was it taken from Kodo? Lot of different textures surrounding the GPO. Done right the future development of the GPO site should bring it all together.

My only query is why the BHP sign wasn't put up before the crane was dismantled? Rather than block a portion of the street off in the future with a portable crane to do the job.

I'm assuming they'll do it using the buildings BMU. Usually signage is made of lightweight but robust materials, so a BMU should be able to sufficiently carry the load.

Visited the post office there recently... the building is absolutely beautiful and historic but AusPost have let it become run down and horrible inside. If that area serves as a hotel lobby, restaurant, or bar, it will look absolutely beautiful.
*Looks at Dyson Airblade Factory* "I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure"

The plans lodge to DAC explained a lot of this, I can't remember exactly but I think that these areas will be function spaces which will be good. Grand ol' style ball rooms.

I also went into the GPO earlier this week and noticed how beautiful but also how run down it looks. Paint peeling on the walls and a big portrait that used to hang behind the counter in a lovely big frame is also missing.
Hopefully this space does remain open to the public and is restored. Would be nice if all the newer additions that the Post Office have added over the years are removed and the original woodwork is retain and restored.

I hope it remains beautiful. It's sad to see how the railway station has changed over the years.
cheers,
