LUXURY apartments are being designed above the Night Train building, in Light Square, for the private use of its colourful owner.

New plans for the apartments are expected to be submitted this week to the City Council on behalf of property owner, William Nash.

Mr Nash, meanwhile, is expected to appear in the District Court today (September 20) after pleading guilty to four counts of taking part in the supply of firearms and one count of possessing a silencer.

The weapons allegedly included an Uzi 9mm sub-machinegun, a Norinco 9mm pistol and a Colt .357 Magnum revolver.

Mr Nash was arrested allegedly carrying a silencer at Adelaide Airport in October, 2003, after an undercover operation by the Australian Crime Commission and SA Police. The City Messenger understands the proposed apartments above Light Square will be used for private accommodation by Mr Nash, and will not be sold. He owns the Light Square/Morphett St corner that currently includes the Night Train-themed restaurant, which is set to close next month, the Viva Function Centre, offices, retail outlets including the Adult Super Store and an existing apartment.

Mr Nash could not be contacted but his architect Dean Bonython described the proposed development as ``three executive apartments on two storeys''. While guarded about the actual design, Mr Bonython said there would be ``a lot of glass ... it's fair to say (Mr Nash) isn't skimping on the design.''

Sad to see the demise of the Night Train - that was one of Adelaide's great theatre restaurants. Mr Nash sounds like a lovely guy to have for a neighbour though!

So it's already got naming rights? That's awesome. So it will def go ahead if approved.

Now that Australian Central, Powerstate and now Police Credit Union have all upgraded there offices, here's hoping as SA's largest Credit Union Savings and Loans is next. Their site is a disgrace at the moment.

That's a rather out-of-the-way place for that sort of a business though, isn't it? I guess they'll have other outlets within the CBD.

At the moment their only CBD branch is on South Terrace. they are looking for a location that is central with lots of parkking. This will also relase their small 2 level building on south terrace for potential development.

Obligatory weekend photo spam. This time, a few of the new Grenfell Centre entrance. Now it's almost done, I'm a bit mixed on it. It does add to the imposing nature of the building, which I like, but it is a bit sterile.

New tenancies. Some developments are designed towards achieving an energy efficiency rating. Somehow I doubt this is one of them
