[COM] Re: COM: Adelaide Oval Redevelopment
Aaaaand it was articles like that tripe from the Murdoch Press that made me boycott buying The Advertiser.
Two things I can't stand is a defeatist attitude...and an inferiority complex.
Perth's new stadium will age like Etihad Stadium in Melbourne: a dull, dark, gloomy, sanitised and corporatised Coliseum. Junk.

+1 - haven't read a News Corp article (except your 'Cracker up my clacker' type articles from the NT News ) for about 2 months now. Every time I hear about an article like this, it just vindicates my decision.ChillyPhilly wrote:Aaaaand it was articles like that tripe from the Murdoch Press that made me boycott buying The Advertiser.

Do we really need a 'my stadium is better than yours' article for a Perth stadium that will probably not open for another decade (if you base the timeframes on Perth Arena's )

To be fair, we shouldn't be talking down Perth's stadium while trying to talk ours up either. We're both going to have great stadiums, and that's a good thing.
If you must slag off something in Perth, there's a perfectly second rate airport you can take serves at.

Newbie and first time post, etc but I don't get why the ADL press would be negative about the Oval development.
I flew down from Brissie to watch the cricket (my first trip to SA) and absolutely loved it. It's a great stadium and something to be proud of.
I'm honestly not a fan of concrete bowl stadiums and I absolutely hate what they did to the Gabba. South Australians should be happy that it's following the SCG's path rather than Melb/Bris/Per.

Simply put, Rucci is an idiot..... Pathetic.Nathan wrote:And now the rag is getting stuck in to Adelaide Oval, because Perth's new stadium will be "better".

ADL press is simply a murdoch-clone. Print whatever sells most papers.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I believe that Adelaide has a particularly high proportion of whingers compared to other Aust cities (and I've lived interstate as well).
When nothing happens, people whinge. When something happens, people whinge too. Also ADL print media (The Advertiser/Sunday Mail) is notorious for publishing negative Adelaide-bashing articles to draw a reaction.
The majority of Adelaidians love the new Adelaide Oval. We are indeed fortunate that we have an amazing new stadium that also respects the heritage of the ground.

There seems to be a correlation between what people whinge about and what they read in the 'Tiser that morning. The irresponsible Murdoch press needs to be shut down.ml69 wrote:I believe that Adelaide has a particularly high proportion of whingers compared to other Aust cities (and I've lived interstate as well).

Adelaide needs a new daily paper. We did have one years ago, but surprise, suprise: Murdoch bought it out.

There is InDaily. Obviously they're much more limited, but the reporting that they do have tends to be much more balance and devoid of click bait.ChillyPhilly wrote:Adelaide needs a new daily paper. We did have one years ago, but surprise, suprise: Murdoch bought it out.

Adelaide did seem to have a lot more whingers then other cities, but I've noticed a new sense of pride in people about Adelaide recently. The oval is great, haven't seen a game there yet but it looks fantastic all lit up at night and the new bridge is nice. Adelaide is a great city and who cares if Perth oval has this or that we have a great oval a city that's getting more vibrant and who compares Adelaide to Perth anyway. Perth has already boomed and is a very expensive city, Adelaide is yet to fully blossom and boosts and is much more affordable.

Not a daily, nor exactly local, but it's worth mentioning that the print edition of The Saturday Paper (published by the crazy-brave Morry Schwartz, who's also responsible for The Monthly and Quarterly Essay) débuts in Adelaide tomorrow. I still think that the most informed and insightful stuff is found online these days, but if you're a print lover The Saturday Paper now reaches us and all the eastern capitals, so at least you'll have an option against Murdoch's weekend dominance.Nathan wrote:There is InDaily. I was at Adelaide United FC v Malaga CF tonight. 23k turned up, fantastic attendance. For many attendees (who have little to no interest in either cricket or Aussie Rules) it was their first time trying out both the redeveloped AO and new Riverbank Bridge. The consensus about it was positive, although the negatives were understandably the gradient of the ground level stands was frustrating for viewing, particularly closer to the pitch; and the size of the ground diluted and dissipated any real atmosphere. Other than that it was positive.

Was there too, considering I've been to 11 of the 17 AFL matches at AO so far, it wasn't the greatest night.ChillyPhilly wrote:I was at Adelaide United FC v Malaga CF tonight. 23k turned up, fantastic attendance. With nothing on the line, the atmosphere was rather dull and the views were below average unless you were in the top of the East Stand.
I'm sure it'll be better with 35,000+ for Adelaide v Victory, where the rivalry is large and all stands will be open.
Can't judge Adelaide Oval if that was your first event considering the factors in play.

I'm sorry, but as a regular Soccer spectator, you can't compare the two. You forget Australian Rules has been firmly established in this country for how long? The professional Soccer league in this country is still growing, I agree Adelaide needs a larger (than Hindmarsh) more appropriate (than Adelaide Oval) venue for the sport, but unfortunately; people of Adelaide don't seem to support such infrastructure, even after however many years of Footy Park being a dump in the middle of no-where, people were still yapping on that such money should be better invested into health and education. I hope one day Adelaide is graced with a reasonable new facility for Soccer and closer to the CBD, until then what we have will have to do.Henwii wrote:Was there too, considering I've been to 11 of the 17 AFL matches at AO so far, it wasn't the greatest night.ChillyPhilly wrote:I was at Adelaide United FC v Malaga CF tonight. 23k turned up, fantastic attendance.
