I can't believe Woolworths hasn't shut down it's Regency Plaza store, that setup has been like that for over 4 years now!

It won't be another Woolies. Firstly Main North Road is much busier than University Parade. Secondly neither store there is right next to the road - they're both in malls. I'm sure the residents of Mawson Lakes would love an Aldi or IGA, but because this is Woolies Lakes and Aldi/IGA are competitors it will probably be something that wont compete, like Target/Big W/another woolies etc..
If Woolworths decide to have two shops in Mawson Lakes, one of them will be a Big W.

Just been told by the Mrs that the latest street directory shows a proposed shopping centre on the corner of Main North Rd and Elder Smith Rd. I've never heard of this. I'll post more detail once I see the street directory. Anyone know anything about this?

I've never heard anything of this. Have you got any info at all? I'm not questioning you, just intrigued as to what may go there. Being an ML resident I'm hoping they'll squeeze a supermarket in there of an IGA kind to give the sole Woolworths some competition. MAWSON Lakes has joined an elite international club in being recognised as one of the safest communities in the world.
The World Health Organisation has accredited the Salisbury Council suburb a certified safe community, joining only 226 other communities across the globe.
Mawson Lakes joins communities in Dallas, Calgary, Melbourne and others in the US, Norway, Sweden, England, China and Hong Kong.
Mawson Lakes is recognised as a special community that creates a safe environment for residents of all ages: Students Australian and international workers and business owners.
The council introduced 56 programs and safety initiatives which include:
BIKE PARKS built to teach road awareness and safety.
POLICE and builder collaboration to reduce theft on building sites by 80 per cent.
EMAIL system between residents and police to identify crime trends and targets, and marking items with "microdots" to identify them in case they're stolen.
City of Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge said the acceptance into the international network was recognition the community was one of the most "progressive in the world".
"All parts of our community have been involved in more than 56 programs which have shaped the place in which they live, work, study and play," she said.
"This network will strengthen our efforts by giving Mawson Lakes and other suburbs in the City of Salisbury access to world's best practice safety initiatives."
Northern Suburbs Minister Michael O'Brien said the community deserved to be rewarded for its efforts.
"This is a prestige award, which places Mawson Lakes in elite international company," he said. "It's worthy recognition for the ongoing efforts to establish a structured safety regime across a range of disciplines.
"There have been some excellent initiatives and it's terrific that all sections of the local population have been engaged in the various projects."
Mawson Lakes project director Vince Rigter said: "We pride ourselves on the difference we can make to the lives of people by enhancing community safety and reducing the risk of injury through innovative community design," he said.
The accreditation was formalised by the International Safe Communities Network at the start of its carols service on Sunday.
Mawson Lakes is the second South Australian community to gain the accreditation.
Noarlunga was first, in 1996.

MAJOR development applications have soared in Playford this year, with projects worth more than $85 million in the pipeline.
The figure, which is underpinned by plans for a $35 million office and apartment tower on Philip Highway, Elizabeth, blitzes the $23.4 million of major developments lodged with the council last year.
Other Playford developments worth more than $2 million lodged this year include a $10 million shopping centre at Blakeview and an $8.5 million warehouse at Pellew Rd, Penfield.
Salisbury Council’s major development applications have remained steady, with 16 plans worth $105 million lodged this year (see fact file below). This figure was down only slightly on 2009, when plans for 22 major projects worth $112 million were lodged.
Playford city development group manager Greg Pattinson said the number of applications was on the rise as larger land divisions in areas such as Playford Alive and Blakes Crossing started to take shape.
“This is due to the growth in Playford and the global financial crisis affecting development in Playford less than other areas,” he said.
Salisbury development services director Greg Waller said the figures showed the global financial crisis had had little impact on northern construction projects.
He said while Salisbury’s overall development applications were down for the year, the council had approved projects worth $234 million - $1 million more than last year.
“People have built on most of the blocks in Mawson Lakes, so we were always expecting a drop in applications,” he said. ‘
PLANNING AHEAD
Major developments lodged with northern councils in 2010:
$35 million - 46 Philip Hwy, Elizabeth: Eight-level building with basement parking
$28 million - Parabanks Shopping Centre, Salisbury: Stage one revamp, including a new mall, 20 retail shops, two kiosks and carparking
$20 million - 9-15 Main St, Mawson Lakes: New Woolworths supermarket, 14 retail shops, kiosk, cafe, two offices and 26 apartments
$12 million - 5-11 Metro Parade, Mawson Lakes: Seven-storey with 38 two-bedroom units
Though I can't find any details on this proposal on either the local news outlet and City of Playford.

in the northern messenger i read that stage two of the mawson lakes shopping centre which was supposed to have started late last year has been cancelled/put on hold and will probably start again around 2013-14 at the earliest. I think they were also planning to construct more shops within the existing centre but that too has been put on hold or cancelled. Mawson Lakes will have a population of around 12,000 by next year and the existing shops and facilities are barely good enough for a town of 1,200.
