Is this not the most bizarre construction method though? the crane is literally in the centre of the site. It's not in or near the core it's just in the middle of nowhere. I will follow this one closly as i'm interested to see how they will build around it.

It'll be interesting to see how they go about taking the crane down once the building is completed.

Same thing popped into my mind.
There does seem to be a gap between the northern side were the walls have gone up, and the carpark. Do they have access through there? If so they could probably squeeze it out.

Thanks for the pics Ben. Great to see this crane going up. At around 2:30pm I saw that the cabin was also up, so it has gone up fairly quickly.

I wonder if this building is to have some kind of courtyard arrangement in the centre around the crane base. Like others have said, will be interesting removing this crane if the building is very close to the lattice tower.

This method of positioning a crane in the centre of a building is quite a common one. Very common in high density areas where there is minimal room around a site to place a tower crane.
Once the crane is no longer required for use they remove it from the top with use of a mobile crane or a second tower crane on site, dis-assembling in reverse to erection. Once it is removed they fill the in voids one by one. A number of buildings around Adelaide have used this method such as the Myer centre where 6 cranes were on the one site. Hope this answers some questions

Yep... as simple as leaving a bay out between the two centre grids and pouring the slab floor by floor later

niice..this part of town in a few years is gonna look very different, hopefully it will feel just as busy as the Northern end of town
good to see a crane for this site has gone up, i would guesstimate that it could be completed by late 2009 or mid 2010

Thanks for the pics Ben. Now watch this baby fly up quickly thanks to the crane. A lot steel work seems to have gone up today alone.
