News & Discussion: Low/Mid-Rise CBD Development
Re: Low to Mid-Rise CBD Development
Great pics! Wow that lobby upgrade is very nice, no wonder Minter Ellison agreed to tenant part of this building. That lobby used to be a dark, dingy awful early 80, almost 70's design. Just shows what can be done to improve interiors too. The exterior glass cubes look ok. It will be good to see them cleaned and tenanted then we can really judge them.

Re: Low to Mid-Rise CBD Development
I think these last few posts should go to its appropriate thread, but anyway...
Why did this extension of the Grenfell Centre have to be so cubic? It also doesn't match the rest of the building looking a little out of place. Besides its design, I have critiscisms regarding pedestrian flow on the west side along the ex-ANZ building. I would have preferred a tidy-up of the old plaza with the plane trees.
Cheers

Strikes me as a unsuccessful attempt at something similar to the Apple Store in New York:

Re: Low to Mid-Rise CBD Development
The proposal for a 5 level mixed use development at 171-209 Gouger Street with commercial tenancies on ground level and tudent residential accomodation at levels 2-5 will be granted planning approval at the ACC DAP meeting next Monday.
Additionaly;
A 6 level building at 73-79 Light Square, containing 20 residential apartments for homeless and low-income people will also be granted planning approval next Monday.

Re: Low to Mid-Rise CBD Development
145 West Terrace is up for public Consultation. Building is 61m AHD which equates to....? I know Adelaide is above sea level...
Re: Low to Mid-Rise CBD Development
The Adelaide CBD is approximately 45m above sea level, so hence this building would be approx. 16m.
Re: Low to Mid-Rise CBD Development
Thanks Will I should have remembered that as the plans for Currie St are 168m AHD and worked out to be 124m.Will wrote:The Adelaide CBD is approximately 45m above sea level, so hence this building would be approx. 16m.

Why can't they keep car yards out of the CBD....although, west terrace is probably the most appropriate out of all the places in the CBD that are car yards.

It's a nice clean looking building. You never know but the lower levels could easily be converted into offices should this dealership leave West Terrace. I guess they may have designed it so.

Like I said, West Terrace does seem to be the most logical place to have car yards within the CBD...BUT...I would rather see them stay in places like Port Road, South Road, Main North Road etc...it just seems like a bit of a waste of space having car yards clogging up the city....but like I said, West Tce is not too bad...it's places like the corner of Pulteny and Angas Street, or next door to the old Exchange etc that would probably be better served as Commercial or Office type buildings.
Re: Low to Mid-Rise CBD Development
I'm not overly opposed to having some more modern showrooms on west terrace. I've seen some rather nice dealerships in melbourne cbd and have always like having a bit of a squizz through the windows as i'm walking past.
