As an AU supporter it doesn't really bother me, they're playing terribly so far this season.

I think you'll find that the article is poorly written. Adelaide United play on the Sunday after the game. So Soccer fans will not be torn between their local team and the national squad.

Instead, they will be torn only if they're a power supporter. The power game is on the same day as the adelaide united game on that sunday.

Correct.

The Australia game does not conflict with anything.

AU vs CCM clashes with Port vs St Kilda. It's the second year in a row this has happened.

Australian Cricket Coach, Darren "Boof" Lehmann raises the idea of having the Riverbank Stand at AO re-named in honour of Barry "Nugget" Rees.

Much as I appreciate Darren's sentiments about SA and Aussie cricket stalwart and favourite, "Nuggett", I don't think this is a good idea (and don't think it will happen).

Darren does raise the prospect of some formal recognition of "Nuggett's" much valued contributions to cricket.
There are other ways to acknowledge the long-standing support given by "Nugget" to SA and Aussie cricket.
Ideas?

"The giant nugget", could you imagine?

I think they should re-name the stand. Naming it the Riverbank Stand was merely a marketing ploy for the development happening on the other side of the Torrens, traditionally it's never been recognised as the 'Riverbank' end.

Yes, there's some thing almost smacking of 'romance' ( in the suited sense) to the Adelaide oval references to the 'ends' there - the river end and the cathedral end - far better than say the street end or something else. It helps engender there's something around it that is attractive rather than bland - almost appealing to people who might visit.

I just hope it does not get Telstra taking over to much more. They have branded the riverbank plaza as Telstra Plaza and put up signs all around the stadium

Which has injected money back into Adelaide Oval.

In the right places, commercial sponsorship and advertising should be further encouraged.

afterwards. Cricket next weekend but we still need more events at
Adelaide oval in the summer.

Do they really to make more money? They're paying off the redevelopment at a rate far greater than what was originally projected.

Huh? It was a grant. Saca debt paid off with that as well. SMA is just covering their operations, a sinking fund for maintenance and a govt sports levy of some sort I believe.

Won't happen. It's been made very clear the Riverbank is a neutral stand, and there's no way it will be renamed for a cricketer.

Tactics!?!
The pink ball, shift in conditions between day and night sessions and changing tactics could add that unexpected element into the Adelaide Oval "experimental"/inaugural day/night Test match.

Is this the way to breathe new life into Test cricket, as attention shifts to shorter formats? Will it bring in the crowds to attend evening/"after work" sessions and better suit local TV audiences? Or chaos? Backlash?

Having witnessed the day/night shift during the recent Sheffield Shield match between the SA Redbacks and NSW Blues (dominated by Test players), this could add a whole new level of interest to the match as the bowlers seem to get an added advantage. And it broadened the live AO audience demographic considerably. Admittedly it was free entry and the presence of half the Australian team was an added bonus (but not for the Redbacks).

Winning the toss, piling on runs before the twilight sets in, crack bowlers, batsmens' capabilities to handle the pink/new ball, timing and potential declarations all come into play.

Once again, the eyes of the cricket world will be watching AO.

Australia v New Zealand: Pink ball and night sessions at Adelaide Oval could change Test tactics
One of the most seismic changes to Test cricket is set to hit Adelaide Oval on Friday, when the night sessions will bring no shortage of tricks and terror.

For so long Test captains have based their declarations and toss decisions on a couple of key factors: winning, weather and the pitch.
But the pink ball's capacity to swing freely and create collapses at night means the final session has become more dangerous than the first two.

Anyone know if this is booked out yet?

AO stands to become an impressive place again - this time in test cricket given what happened in Perth and Bris. A0 seems to be generating much more development - possibly including a livelier CBD, more hotels and apartment blocks as well. Adelaide is losing that nasty stigma of earlier decades thanks to AO and ancilliary developments. Reaching thousands of people first hand.

Looking forward to watching the match.

Not sure if booked out, but the members stands will be beyond capacity I'm sure. There's more members than seats...
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
