Does anyone else despise the SA Great ads?

A minute of people being forced to make their own fun in locations not uniquely South Australian. Poor.

Anybody else annoyed at the travel commission's insistence on using fine wines & food to sell SA? There's good dining everywhere, so why would people come here for it?

great choice of music, but needs more images of KI, Flinders Ranges, Murray River/Coorong National Park, Food + Wine Regions: Clare, Barossa, Hills, Coonawarra, Mclaren Vale and also could have thrown in some Adelaide images like the Glenelg Tram, Central Market and Pandas..

any other vids on SA that hit the mark

there was a great wine ad with Poh in it ... not surprising that i mistake a wine ad for an SA ad

this one is way too Gov inspired - generic and needs a script

Actually fine wine and food are our strengths. SA has the best wine regions in Australia as well as the best market in Australia, not to mention award wining produce and the city which has the most restaurants that have won the "best of..." in Australia. Why shouldn't we use our strengths to advertise the state?

fair point but isn't SA more than wine and KI and the Murray?

seems to me the huge diversity and the accessibility of the state is a strength

Because nobody says "I'd like to holiday in SA, if only they had good restaurants!" People don't come here because they think SA's a "boring plate to go". It's the job of the tourism board to convince these people to come here, but the most exciting thing that's happened in over a decade of tourism ads is some bloke in the Barossa standing in front of barrels, swirling a wine glass. I can hardly contain myself at the thought of it!

Just because you are not interested in wine and food, does not mean others aren't. For example I would rather go to somewhere like the Tamar Valley or Margaret River over the Gold Coast.

We cannot be all things to all people. It is better to deliver what we can deliver well rather than trying to be something we are not.

Think about it. If we tried to convince those people whose idea of a fun holiday is going to a theme park or laying on a beach for 8 hours to come to SA, how well do you think we would be able to deliver on it?

I do agree to a point, but this has been mainly aimed at Adelaidians to holiday in their own state to boast regional tourism. I myself like the advert, it's got a catchy song and does make you wanna go on a weekend escape with family or friends. But you're right it should include more of the scenic unique parts of our state, Arkaroola for example is such an underrated destination and deserves so much more attention.

Honestly the whole SA Tourism Commission needs a major overhaul. I'm not talking about the logo or slogan, that's perfect. But what I am talking about is their marketing at promoting our state to the rest of the world. There has been some improvement in recent times, though there has been some backward decisions namely the relocation of the SA Tourist Centre to an travel agency that advertises holidays around the country = dumb. The new website format isn't that crash hot either.

We are blessed with some beautiful scenic places and we kick arse in the Festival Department. Yet their main focus is still food & wine, which is fine to a degree but there is so much more to SA that needs to be promoted outside the state borders. I would seriously like to see the SATC promote our jammed packed Festival Season and create holiday packages to people interstate, or even just advertise our wide selection of amazing events. Adelaide in Jan-March, is like a completely different city and deserves to be put on the national stage.

I hate to bring up the V-word, but Victorian Tourism kicks arse in this field. Their adverts are usually classy, exciting, quirky and extremely well down. It actually makes you want to pack your bags and go for a holiday in Melbourne or other Victorian destinations. Our tourism marketing is sometimes on the cheaper side, and usually not that eye-catching. It's also interesting that none of our adverts have a quirky feel, considering we are probably the most quirkest city and state in the country.

You can't blame SA being smaller, because NT and Tasmania have pulled off some wonderful tourism campaigns over the years..

i don't mind it. I believe it is shown locally on TV only, not interstate - right?
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Yes, local campaign only. Holiday in your own backyard is the message.

I'm not a fan of this ad.
Others have already covered the target market and cons. (it doesn't annoy me as much as the horrible Creepers ads, especially on billboards on the main SA highways!)

The wine and food angles of some tourism promotions are good for the indulgence market and short stays and complement the arts festivals.
