Sorry, 'bout this monotonehell :D (I'm not intending to make fun of you or anything. )

Obviously Rann thinks its a pretty good vision too, otherwise he wouldn't be investing personal effort to ridicule it. Rann wants Hamilton-Smith to "show him the money". I want Rann to show me the results of his last 7 years in office (his results I mean, not just a catalogue of good stuff that's happened while Rann has been in office)

I reckon I can cost the proposal right now. 1. Sell West Lakes +$350m 2. Sell Ent centre site +$20m 3. Rebuild RAH and save. +$600m 4. Private sector buys ancillary commercial development rights in exchange for paying half the cost of building stadium + $500m 5. No tram required to west lakes, saving +$300 m Total $1.77 billion. And that's not even taking into account the annual benefit from extra jobs and GSt tax coming to government. Mr Rann, what's your problem?

election winner right here. Adelaide needs this more than anything else- this will do wonders for tourism, and the image of Adelaide. best of all we hopefully wont have to suffer AAMI stadium anymore. Whatever sport plays at this stadium I will attend- footy, rugby, soccer, cricket!

let me crunch some numbers if we have a hospital thats about 950 beds.. with a patient per day at max capacity the most ppl it will service will be 346,750 ppl per year. if we get a stadium of 50,000 capacity for both soccer and football then it will be running all year. lets say we manage to get a game each week of the year, but every game only averages 50% capacity. 1,300,000 would have been through the gates in a single year. Thats not including finals matches, world cup, international events, concerts etc.... Read More That is more than 3x the amount of ppl who will stay in that hospital! and thats if the hospital is full capacity, and the stadium at half capacity. Imagine what that figure would be if the capacity percentage were reversed!!! Add to that each patient in a bed COSTS the state money. Every seat at a stadium GENERATES INCOME! Not jsut from the cost of ticket. But from food, drink, merchandise, not to mention the money spent at cafe's and bars throughout the city.

ONYA BJ.. this is about the 'walking dead' boomers wanting a nice new hospital to keep them gasping another few years verse the young people who need a vibrant and creative city... To deny the young is stupid they will be paying for everything including the funerals for the boomers!!.. However, just to do something, anything no matter how bad is ALL GOOD in this City of the WALKING DEAD....

My god!!! Has the penny finally dropped in this little town?? Please!! Get on with it immediately!! Adelaide is stagnant, it is bereft of vision, it is stuck in the 80's let's be honest. The lib's vision of progress is an absolute must!! I remember Melbourne before Jeff Kennett came along and breathed new life into the place with constructing sports, arts, entertainment sectors. The place was nearly as dismal as Adelaide is now. Now look at it! Productive and vibrant. People want to live there, tourists want to be there. Can't say as much for this town. Get on with it!

I take back many of the things I said before 2010; particularly my anti-Rann rants. While I still maintain some of said opinions, I feel I could have been less arrogant. I also apologise to people I offended; while knowing I can't fully take much back. :)

they are part of the vision. Build an EP and in turn more buildings will magically appear near the western end of Nth Terrace & Hindley St.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Mattblack, I think you will find that the SANFL and AFL would jump ship very quickly to use this new stadium. At the moment, they are playing it safe with the current Government cause they have been offered lots of redevlopment dollars. They would be very silly to say that they would love a new stadium when Labour are offering them money. Any new stadium would be used weekly during the winter months by Port and the Crows, and would be very successful in hosting A-league games during the summer months (does work well at Etihad Stadium currently which is why they get 40-50,000 each game). And your exactly right, Melbourne are building a purpose built soccer stadium cause their respective Government has vision and gets on with the job regardless of current financial environment. Pity we dont have that with Labour during what they say is SA's economic boom (or apparent bust when they have to build something).

Don't build the new hospital on this iconic site!
It is the ideal location for some version of the MHS plan for a broad, multipurpose sporting, recreational, entertainment, convention site, adjacent to the absolute essential of a transport hub.
I can't understand the Rann government's fixation on building a new hospital on this site. Redevelop the existing RAH site or choose another site (Feds handover/gift the Keswick Army Barracks?) but don't lock up this site with an inappropriate hospital development.
The timeline for the MHS plan - post GFC - leaves a lot of wiggle room but it gives hope for the future.
Adelaide and South Australia need a vibrant riverside, transport-oriented hub to complement existing facilities. This would boost the state psyche and pride and our economy, help to retain our younger generation and attract more residents and visitors.
The 2010 state election will be very important for the future of this state.

My bad. sorry. BTW, has anyone noticed that the new tramline extension the the (Unfortunately) Current EC appears in the Liberals' Masterplan? Perhaps they aren't as anti-tram as we thought?

Because it's due to be completed before or just after the election anyway.

Err... the average crowd for the Victory isn't 40,000 per game, maybe for a grand final. The average is about 25,000.

Now there is furore about it being the wrong place blah blah blah.
Election is not until 3/2010 so maybe we should wait until the rebuttal from Labor - after all I would suspect that Labor will have some sweetners not announced as of yet to get us to vote for them.

Show us a decent timeline and costing structure and then this project might have some creditability - until then this is all pie in the sky stuff.
Can't quite put my finger on it, but something tells me you might not be the most objective person to comment on this. :)

You are the only one to notice Pants :D
I guess I am not impressed by the MHS run Liberal govt.
And I can't believe people on here will vote for MHS on this project alone!
It wasn't that long ago that our forumers were slamming MHS for trying to block the tram extension.

I think one of the main points is, if they still want to - they can build a new hospital elsewhere in/next to the CBD without wasting the railyard space which even if it takes 20yrs - could become a vibrant entertainment precinct.

I don't see why Labor can't consider building the hospital at other locations such as; Keswick barracks, on a small portion of the land on West Tce, small portion of South Tce, along Sir Edwin Smith Ave (opposite Women & Childrens and Memorial Hospital), on Frome Rd next to the zoo etc etc etc.

I like the gaps that have been left - physical, economic and political - throughout the proposal.

Physically there does seem to be plenty of land left free from development (such as directly north of the weir and north west of the Morphett/War Mem intersection) - which could provide possibilities for future (casino?) expansion.

And as for the political and economic gaps, is there an election coming up?

Well waz, how did I know you were going to pipe up?

.

Why would the SANFL go from a sole ownership to a partnership, doesnt make much sence unless you are given a crap load of incentives which is exactally what MHS will have to do.

does work well at Etihad Stadium currently which is why they get 40-50,000 each game.
If its that good for soccer why bother building a new $30-40 (?) million new stadium. seems to me like that would be stupid, not a vision.

Unfunded bollocks, like all of MHS policies.

I totally agree why build any building in the CBD 5 stories high but then have to speard it out over such a large area why not use half the land somewhere else and then make it doulde the height. i know its not that simple it does make alot of sense to me. This is what this part of town needs so badly the only time i ever see anyone around that area is uni students on their way home (but they don't have any money) and people searching of taxi's at 4 o'clockin the morning (and they are usually all out of money at that stage)
To try to put it in some sort of perspective the World Cup is as big as having 2 grand finals a day for a month
