The reason this bridge has taken so long is money i'd suspect, that and some pretty average decisions from council. There was never any after hours work being done, no weekends, no nights, just times when labour is cheapest.
the most rediculous thing is that this could have been closed for a week if they just built a new one next to it, opened that, then demo'd the old one after commissioning the newy.
in addition to the poor decisions, this is possibly the most boring bridge to ever be constructed in a marina.

what a shame.

I drove and walked across it at 4pm today (Sat 17/12/2011).

Its a very small bridge, get over it!!!......literally.

Sorry for dredging up an old thread, but as Ben pointed out, the lighting changes regularly and it does indeed look really good.

The dead-calm water made for interesting reflections.

They should do lighting like this on the Morphett St bridge next to the convention centre extension. Would jazz up that bridge quite nicely.
