Big infrastructure investments are usually under-valued and & over-criticized while in the planning stage. It's much easier to envision the here and now costs and inconveniences, and far more difficult to imagine fully the eventual benefits.

Am I missing something? I only count about 16 levels (although that's impossible if the building is 128m). Are there two levels between each of those white lines?slenderman wrote:[Shuz] wrote:I count 32 levels.
Yes.

Can't we have something similar at least?!Kasey771 wrote:stronic wrote: Oh dear Lord, I was briefly scrolling through this thread and though this was a render and WE were getting this..I almost jizzed! thankfully I was able to speed-read before I got too excited;) bugger:( I wish we were getting this beauty!

I drove past last night and it looked like the temporary car park fence has been removed and the block cleaned up a bit.
Is the developer still being held to a commencement date on this? It hasn't been approved yet has it?

The height of 128m would breach the PANS-OPS flight ceiling. I also doubt that this would fall within the 10% gradient from the top of the 132m Westpac House which enables new developments to be 'shielded' which would otherwise have breached the PANS-OPS ceiling, to be able to do so.

I went past this site today and there is now temporary fencing around the property and they were doing what looked like test sample core drills.
Probably a good sign that this development is progressing to the point that they are designing foundations. Hopefully some renders and more details get released soon.

Was this proposal ever 'Approved' by the DAC? I highly doubt it would be in SWP already without any serious news.

It was never approved by the DAC. I don't even think an application has been submitted. My understanding is that at this stage there has been some preliminary discussion with the relevant authorities.Dvious wrote:Was this proposal ever 'Approved' by the DAC? *cough*
*cough*March 21, 2013:
Mr Evans said his firm was "scrambling madly'' to finish the design so it could submitted to the Development Assessment Commission next month, in the hope of gaining planning approval as a soon as possible.
"If they are going to tender and to get a builder to start early next year, they need all the time they can get.''
Town Hall's strategic property manager Mike Philippou confirmed the sale contract included a condition that building works must start "by early 2014''.

The JPE website has been updated, and with it more information regarding this proposal.
The proposal will be called "U2 on Waymouth", and unfortunately there appears to be a reduction in height - now it is only 23 levels and around the 70-80m mark.

I like it! I love the facade on the first 3-4 floors. Very interesting.
At least it'll cover up Uno's blank western wall (what a sight for those east-facing apartments) ... but then again, I wonder if it will have an equally nondescript, and even bigger, uglier blank western wall of its own.

I think they should re-think the ceiling treatment under the canopy (looks very 60s brutalist to me) but the overall design concept looks very nice.

I'm usually a "bigger is better" guy, but I actually think a building of 23 levels suits that spot more than a whopping 34 levels. Over 20 is still more than I would have expected from that spot.
Meanwhile, more significant streets and boulevards like Currie, Pulteney and King William are prime for some taller 'scrapers to bump up the overall Adelaide average.

Who are you? Anne Moran? 34 levels is very short for the middle of the city! A shame its height got cut back, but still looks alright I suppose.Plasmatron wrote:I'm usually a "bigger is better" guy, but I actually think a building of 23 levels suits that spot more than a whopping 34 levels.
