Even if the building is ugly it blocks out CC1 from Vic Square so there's no net loss. I think the design looks fine as long as they keep to the colour contrast with the neighbouring blue/bluegreen buildings.

Key focal areas like Vic Square need iconic, stand out architecture.

Of course. And if I had my way 260 Flinders would be built on the square. But you just gotta go with what you have. It's not an amazing proposal, but it's better than the Hilton, SGIC, the building on Wakefield, the 5 Star Eco Wall on Kodo, etc. It's better than what's there. And how quickly do we forget that view before City Central was built with it's grimy old concrete walls, external fire escapes, abandoned industrial buildings... the backside of the old Advertiser building wasn't stand out architecture.

This one is due to start around April/May.

Did we ever determine whether that (awful) proposal earlier in the thread was the finished product, or a 'concept'?

Are those tedious boxes what we're getting?

We are getting the taller one for now. Not sure about the second, smaller stage.

Anyone with a picture hosting account wanna resize these? Judging by the URLs, they're from 11 April 2016. Against popular opinion, I don't mind the designs, but I imagine they'll change.

Nothing special about the tower but the podium relates to the adjacent building and street really well.

I really like the podium and terrace area. The laneway it creates next to the GPO and 'annex' looks fantastic as well. Infact, I have hardly noticed the little 'annex' to the GPO before, but going off the renders this is a great example of modern architecture being used to highlight an old facade.

The facade is interesting, looks like a sheer glass wall with the oversize bracing beneath. If the glass has the right amount of reflection, it could be stunningly elegant. On the flip side if it's 100% transparent, add the blinds that will be sure to be haphazardly drawn, it could end up a dogs breakfast.

Agree on the podium space though. It's beautiful.

Love that they've lifted their retail image from an actual Honest Burgers... if only!
(Best burger outfit in London)
