Only catch is it has to be student accommodation and the design must be sub-standard in order to progress quicklycrawf wrote:Proposed less than 9 months ago, and already underway.

I've always quite liked Elizabeth House as a fairly tidy example of a 1950s building. I like the angled windows - it's something different.slenderman wrote:Internal demolition underway. Can't say I'll be too sad to see either building go.
On a very minor note, it's a shame the demo company has just mangled the Elizabeth House letting on front of the building. Not sure if it was original to the building but I like the idea of preserving stuff like that, even if it's just being sold off letter by letter in a junk shop. A small bar could have used them to spell out I SEE EBOLA on a wall somewhere...

I definitely agree with you there. Compared to the facades of other buildings from that era in the CBD, Elizabeth House is rather inoffensive. It will be somewhat sad to see it go.Llessur2002 wrote:I've always quite liked Elizabeth House as a fairly tidy example of a 1950s building. I feel this may be one of those buildings that people look back on in 50 years and question why it was demolished.

The 1960s building on the right is almost gone now.

Disappointing! When the building next door to the right came down for the resi tower... it revealed some old school signage on the building that had been covered for many decades. The most interesting for me was a business advertisement with a 5 digit phone number.
I was hoping for a similarly cool time capsule on Elizabeth House. Ah well.

Anyone got any photos of what used to be there? (UniSA apartments)Algernon wrote:Disappointing! Now just a big pile of rubble. There's a nice view of Citi Centre Arcade and Conservatory on Hindmarsh from North Terrace, soon to be built out of view again.

Can anyone explain the timber-clad fire-stairs/exit along rear left of this building/photo?
Is this still a part of Elizabeth house and still needs to go or is it part of the Aust Fashion Labels building? I can't work out why it would be in timber and why it hasn't either been demolished or upgraded (if remaining).
