I'm not sure about your point of only having one showdown a year... I think it would be hard not having one port home and one crows home game. But that's not the main point. The part I agree with you about is what I just quoted.
If I knew that there were plans for a new stadium in 5-10 years etc and that AAMI was no longer our option for the future, I would get back on the AFL attending band wagon. I love supporting my team at the ground, but I will not pump money into AAMI and the SANFL when I know we deserve much better.

I was actually referring to a number of posts that only related to crowd attendances at a football game. Absolutely nothing to do with this forum. They contributed nothing to this topic.

Surely, by making comments like this, you are just adding to the "unrelated comments" you are complaining about!
I do feel that this is a development that really shouldn't happen in the short term. Perhaps in 10 years when our government is loaded with all the tax it is going to get from the mining etc, it can build this stadium. But right now, our money is much better spent on transport, infrastructure, health & education.

I have no time for people who question my supporter status. I have pumped enough time, money, emotion and effort into the Crows for a life time. The fact that I don't go to their home games any more is irrelevant. Comparing someone's ability as a supporter is pretty much a ridiculous argument. I am more of a supporter because I want to see the best for them, and supporting them and in turn supporting their ground, is not going to help that.
Re: #Vision: New Inner-City Stadium
We already have a great stadium about the right size for Adelaide, much closer than Melbourne’s MCG to the CBD in the Adelaide oval. Surely it’s really just about the politics of who owns what and scheduling!

Most teams have a fairly diverse mix. There is no doubt though that Port fans on average are far more feral/bogan than most. That is the simple truth of the matter. To be honest I didn't even think there was anyone who doubted it. I thought Port fans were proud of it.Cruise wrote:Tyler_Durden wrote:
And besides, a city stadium comes with its own pitfalls. Imagine the city after a Port game, it would be bogan central. It would, quite frankly, be an embarrassing image for our city. At least currently we can contain most of them to far end of Port Road.
oh i forgot, supporters from all the other AFL clubs all drive BMW's, enjoy going to the opera and like to discuss world politics over games of Backgammon.

When crowd figures are being spoken of as the main reason we need a new stadium then what could possibly be more relevant to the discussion?Dave_The_Planner wrote:I was actually referring to a number of posts that only related to crowd attendances at a football game. Crowd figures are always relevant. No spectators, no new stadium... but we also need to look at the location of this new stadium, how it is served by public transport, car parking and other leisure and hospitality amenities. Maybe, a well-planned stadium would also attract those who (including families) just want to feel the atmosphere, pass time and enjoy its facilities (and its surrounds).Tyler_Durden wrote:When crowd figures are being spoken of as the main reason we need a new stadium then what could possibly be more relevant to the discussion?Dave_The_Planner wrote:I was actually referring to a number of posts that only related to crowd attendances at a football game. Yeh, just not in West Lakes. Or should I say the Entertainment Hotspot of Adelaide.
Re: #Vision: New Inner-City Stadium
If the stadium was in the CBD as opposed to West Lakes, I'd go to a hell of a lot more games than I do now.
I'm a Crows season ticketholder, and half the time simply can't be bothered dragging my sorry arse out to West Lakes on the Footy Express (last time, 5 of them went past "FULL" before I jumped on a West Lakes Mall bus and walked).
It's a shocking place to watch football, and if a few mates are having drinks or people round to watch the game, a lot of the time I'd sooner do that.
It's easier, I get there and home quicker, and it's often more enjoyable than being there.
Crows games are sold out almost every week, yet these days, a "bumper crowd" is 40k plus.
Where are the rest of the 14,000 peole who have paid to go?
If the venue was more accomodating, more enjoyable to watch footy, and easily accessible to more people, it's not rocket science to suggest that crowds would increase.
For me personally, footy just isn't that important anymore. If I've got a day or night out on offer instead, I'd sooner do that - because of AAMI's location and the epic traffic getting there and home, it's usually not an option to do both. If it was in the CBD, it probably would be.

Re: #Vision: New Inner-City Stadium
Good points Matt.
And if people are sacraficing a footy game for say a night out on the town, with a stadium in cbd they could do both.
The time it takes for you to walk from the ground and get in your car you could walk to a pub, restaurant, casino, club and continue and enjoyable night (IF your team won).
I'm not a massive footy fan but last game I went to was Crows game v Hawthorn in the NAB Cup (yes a while ago) but that had say about 30,000 odd people I think and we parked in the adjoining carpark (ovals) and we were sitting idle in the car for like 10 minutes .. going nowhere!!! I assume people waiting for public transport would have been the same .. and that's nowhere near the 55,000 capacity crowd!!!
There is nowhere to go and nothing to do at AAMI other than sit in your car and listen to 5AA game wrap up!! Ohh unless you can get 10,000 people crammed into the 5th quarter bar??!! The city is ideal.
As a massive soccer fan I am all for Aussie Rules growing and firmly establishing itself as the number one sport in OZ .. no doubt about it. I think crowds will grow with a move to the city and this decision should be made on the basis that this debate has begun to rage after 20 odd years of Footy Parks existance. no matter what renovations they do this "inner city stadium" debate will continue 5 or 10 years after the reno's and i am sure they will be a big waste of time!!
I have said it before .. the guy (architect) that designed Footy Park has himself stated that whilst it hurts him to say it, he believes AAMI is past its used by date and should move into the city. Why doesn't this government believe and trust people who have studied town planning, building, architecture, infrastructure etc etc ..???

Re: #Vision: New Inner-City Stadium
You'd have to be pretty gullible to believe anyone who says they would go to more games at a city stadium. If people aren't that interested in going to watch football at West Lakes then they just aren't that interested full stop. It's like when Port joined the AFL. Market research was that they'd get 40k to a game. They regularly get barely half of that. Why? Because it's easy to say "yeah, I'll go" but when it comes to actually doing it they couldn't be bothered.
I'd love a city stadium for AFL. But it would not make a difference to attendances.

Night games at AAMI are the best attended so that is clearly no issue. If people turned up for day games but not night games you may have a point, but that's not the case.talrok wrote:And if people are sacraficing a footy game for say a night out on the town, with a stadium in cbd they could do both.

I think you'd have to be pretty foolish to think that a city stadium would make no difference to crowd numbers. Accessibility in general becomes so much easier for a start. And that's discounting the ability to go out before or after the game etc.
Re: #Vision: New Inner-City Stadium
Bullshit. If only had to travel 20mins instead of an hour and could get to a stadium by public transport, of course i'd go more often.Tyler_Durden wrote:You'd have to be pretty gullible to believe anyone who says they would go to more games at a city stadium. Also, in regards to your post about my comments on the crows lack of desire and passion. You say that I have a lack of understanding. So what are your credentials?? I have followed football all my life, been a crows supporter since day 1 against hawthorn in 1991. I've watched them go through highs and lows. Currently, they DO NOT PLAY WITH PASSION OR DESIRE. Which is mainly due to the regimented sports science approach that Neil Craig brings. That man shows absolutely no emotion. You watch the other coaches, with the exception of Mark Thompson, they all bash the phone or swear every now and then. But not Craig, he just sits there dead pan all the time. Footy needs to be about passion and desire, you can't rest solely on your skills. And unfortunately, the crows have little of either at the moment. And a tip Tyler, NEVER tell me that I have a lack of understanding about footy. I don't know a lot about a lot, but I know footy.

I wonder if Foley can click into steamroller mode and override the politics of Adelaide Oval not hosting AFL games? it'd be a vote winner for sure!Shuz wrote:Oh you guys just don't get it.

Not sure Adelaide Fucking Oval is the best name for the place though, it's not exactly an oval shape
