How about if I point out that is the same shade of glass that the Myer Centre uses? ;)
Excuse myself while I attend to the vomitarium.
A vomitorium is a term used for the wide exit stairs from Roman stadia as the crowds were said to vomit forth at the end of the games... speaking of stadia... look out thread lock....!

I really like the balconies, how they move positions as they go up the building. I walk past this often and my eye is always drawn to them. I hope they give them a nice complementary treatment to the rest of the building that works.

From AdelaideNow:
Bin falls 13 storeys at building site

March 17, 2009 01:45pm

A BIN fell 13 storeys into a city construction site and other equipment plunged into Pirie St yesterday during a workplace accident.

No one was injured, but SafeWork SA is investigating how the bin and a "wheeled device" came to fall at the Aurora on Pirie site, which is being built by Baulderstone.

A SafeWork SA spokesman said that "a worker was using a wheeled device to tip sand from a large bin into a skip on the 13th floor of the building".

The device and its bin rolled free, breaking through the fall protection barriers in place.

The device and bin then fell 13 storeys, hitting hoardings above a ground-level walkway.

The bin fell into the construction site, while the device "came to rest" in Pirie St.

SafeWork SA inspectors are examining the incident scene and the eqipment as well as speaking to witnesses.

There are accidents on worksites all over the world, is Adelaide really any worse than the other cities? We had not been in Seattle for a month when a tower crane in Bellevue (across the lake from Seattle) collapsed, crashing into an adjacent apartment complex, killing one of the residents; last year they shut down three more cranes that didn't meet safety standards. In March last year, a crane crashed in NYC killing seven and injuring 12; the investigation revealed that the operators were violating zoning codes and that an inspector had faked the inspection reports for the site.

As long as we keep the incidents relatively rare and benign like this one, and follow up on them seriously so we can learn something from them, I'm comfortable. Is the situation in Adelaide worse than I think?

No. Keeping it relative is the point.

Fun fact: Aurora on Pirie would have to be almost six times taller to be considered a Supertall.

But this one is still making a bigger impact (in the square) than expected.
