You can currently get to AAMI Stadium by public transport. And it's free. I find it hard to believe a self proclaimed expert on all things football could not know that.
Also, in regards to your post about my comments on the crows lack of desire and passion. You say that I have a lack of understanding. So what are your credentials?? I have followed football all my life, been a crows supporter since day 1 against hawthorn in 1991. I've watched them go through highs and lows. Currently, they DO NOT PLAY WITH PASSION OR DESIRE. Which is mainly due to the regimented sports science approach that Neil Craig brings. That man shows absolutely no emotion. You watch the other coaches, with the exception of Mark Thompson, they all bash the phone or swear every now and then. But not Craig, he just sits there dead pan all the time. Footy needs to be about passion and desire, you can't rest solely on your skills. And unfortunately, the crows have little of either at the moment. And a tip Tyler, NEVER tell me that I have a lack of understanding about footy. I don't know a lot about a lot, but I know footy.
The Crows are top 5 in Key "effort" statistics such as tackles and contested possessions and have developed a league wide reputation as being a committed side.
Anyway, I see no need to continue this line of arguing as this has definitely ventured off topic but I did notice the irony in someone questioning the desire of the Crows in the same post as complaining that travelling to West Lakes takes too much effort.
I hope bagging your team's effort makes you feel better.

I wonder if Foley can click into
steamroller mode and override the politics of Adelaide Oval not hosting AFL games? it'd be a vote winner for sure!
Not sure
Adelaide Fucking Oval is the best name for the place though, it's not exactly an oval shape
Adelaide oval is almost a true oval shape as compared to footy pk which is almost circular. We could alwalys call it 'The Adelaide oblong' if you want to get technical.

Market research was that they'd get 40k to a game. They regularly get barely half of that. Why? Because it's easy to say "yeah, I'll go" but when it comes to actually doing it they couldn't be bothered.
I'd love a city stadium for AFL. But it would not make a difference to attendances.
talrok wrote:And if people are sacraficing a footy game for say a night out on the town, with a stadium in cbd they could do both.
Night games at AAMI are the best attended so that is clearly no issue. If people turned up for day games but not night games you may have a point, but that's not the case.
Matt wrote:For me personally, footy just isn't that important anymore.
The real reason comes out.
I lived in Melbourne and am a mad Essendon supporter. Do really i think i could have been bothered going all the way out to Waverley when it was there? Hell no....
The fact that i just had to jump on a tram to the city and walk not far at all to either stadium meant that i would and enjoy doing that, even for non Essendon games that had interest to me. So easy to meet up with friends at a pub in town and all walk from there.
I can't elaborate enough to you all, the atmosphere in the CBD pre and post game is incredible and exciting. Cars, trams and peolpe walking all in their 'colours'.
A stadium in the CBD is much more than just the event or the sport, it's an experience.
I love it...

Why spend $600m to fix a political problem, Adelaide oval in the right spot, about to be upgraded and the right size for Adelaide. $600m won't increase crowd size, we might actually find that many people prefer to jump in the car to go to the footy and unlike Melbourne we don't have a potential of several hundred thousand CBD workers ready to wonder down straight after work. As for going to the footy by public transport, it would be a real culture change in Adelaide. It’s been a long time since most men knew what the inside of a bus looked like.

I don't understand the arguement about being able to go to the footy and then going out into town afterwards.
If i go to the footy i will then want to go home and get changed first before going out into town. Unless you want Adelaide to become like Melbourne, With ferals dressed in footy colours getting into pubs and nightclubs.

because that would ruin a patch of grass at the northern end of Adelaide Oval, All the Nimby's on this site cream over "the hill"

That is the sort of mentality we need to try and change in Adelaide and also what the government is trying to improve.
Unfortunately, politics do play a major part in the reason why games will not be played at AO. So don't hold out for any games there soon. AO upgrade will hardly be of 'world standard', so we'll end up with no CBD stadium, a half baked stadium in a crap location and a old stadium on the torrens that is in a great location and is beautiful, but not up to the standards of what Adelaide is trying to attract.
It's no wonder they laugh at us.

No, not a good point at all. Cruise, pubs yes, clubs no... You can't get into clubs looking like that. This does in fact help create a constant vibrance in the city. These football people stay in the city after a sat arvo game, by the time they are ready to head home the new wave of party goers for the night are starting to rock up.
It's all about keeping the people in the city and adding to the atmosphere.
Tourists that are here in Adelaide will much prefer to see a game of 'Aussie Rules' in the city rather than trying to get to west Lakes.

Brando is right and its not solely about trying to get a big crowd for a footy game .. its what comes with that footy crowd. If a stadium were in city there is a very very good chance people will come into the city early and stay later for a drink, a meal, to meet friends, shopping, etc. This brings in more money to our city. This brings in more people to the city (that's what the Government is crying out for) and I believe it would make it safer the more people there are in the CBD. yes, tourists must hate having to travel to AAMI when many might be staying in the city. Which bus from the city goes to AAMI???
I went to a game in Melbourne on Saturday arvo last year and before the game went for lunch at a Bridge Rd pub .. the amount of people walking around and having lunch (with their supporter's gear on) was fantastic and made the place feel vibrant and energetic .. felt great to be amongst it all. And might I say many of the people in the pub were kids with their parents.
I have also gone to Tard Dome and MCG for Friday night games and same thing re people heading into the city .. like a festival atmosphere as everyone heads out into the city and not their cars where they lock themselves away in the pollution of traffic!!
In time crowds will grow (if not immediatelt) .. the game is always growing no doubt about it and I think people will catch onto the idea of public transport into the city and the many ammenities there are in the city to make their football experience that much more enjoyable then AAMI!!!
We need to learn from places that have done this before .. and what better place then Melbourne (the so called home of football) .. they scraped Waverley and build a second stadium in the city .. they are even now building a new soccer stadium .... yes, in the CBD!!!!
We need to think long term!!!!!!
Build it and they will come!!!

Absolutley. I agree. The atmosphere in the city would be much improved. It would be a massive boost for the city. That's why I'd love to see a city stadium hosting AFL games. My only point is crowds wouldn't increase much because people can still watch games on half hour delay on their big screen high definition TVs at home. You have to realise that Melbourne teams aren't shown on free-to-air every time they play. The Adelaide teams are, on very short delay.

put it this way, I doubt crowds will drop .. so either way the new stadium wont ruin 'current' crowd figures ... BUT, it might actually get a few more thousand people to the game who are in the city just finishing their shopping or work in the city (eg. saturday/sunday retail) and instead of going home they might head to the game. Who knows, maybe one day people in SA will go to the footy just because they like footy and not a specific team as in Melbourne. you go to Crows v Saints game and kids wearing Richmond or Hawthorn tops .. awesome!!!
It basically comes down to convenience and ease of transportation. the city has major rail and bus routes from the CBD (AAMI doesn't and would be wasted money building this just for once a week travellers) and it also has some major roads (West Tce, Port Rd, Grange Rd, Henley Beach Rd and Sir D B D) .. and that's why it should be put above rail yards or opposite West Tce Macca's.
Just Do It ... in 10 years time there will be no debating, no regrets and the way the world economy is going no money ... do it NOW!!!

You have failed to consider the price of admittance which is also a factor. AAMI Stadium is the cheapest venue in the country for AFL right now and people still use ticket prices as an excuse. A new stadium would inevitably cause a rise in ticket prices, bringing them more in line with interstate venues. I'm not saying crowds would drop, I doubt they would, but you have to realise that entry cost is a factor when people decide whether to go and you can't ignore that.

True, however, everything in life goes up .. unless you are male and over 80.
A new light rail to AAMI will probably increase prices. And if it doesn't then that's even worse as that means the whole of SA is paying for somethign that only about 70,000 people use fortnightly. I doubt solely the government will pay for this.
The new reno's at AAMI may increase prices as well.
I know times can be tough for people with families, but its always the same song here in this state. Nothing gets done as people don't want to pay a dollar or two extra!!!! Other states move on a bite the bullet while little old SA gets left behind and continue's to be the butt of all jokes.
I am not sure if it would work here but I believe that when Arsenal Football Club built their new stadium they made sure they had fantastic corporate facilities and packages which they then sold off and this alone apparently paid for a fair chunck of the building costs. SANFL are sitting on prime land and could make $100's of millions of dollars just from the sale of that land.
Anyway, whats the bet that a large number of people that complain about ticket prices have no problems with having the best Foxtel package, best mobile phone and highest cap plan, most expensive internet package, a Wii and PS3, portable everythings, Flat Screen Plasma's in each room, etc etc etc .... working in the finance industry I know all it takes is a basic budget at the start of each pre-season to realise how you can come up with say $300 over the next 12 months. Oh, I haven't mentioned cigarettes and alcohol .. but I wont go there.
Anyway, its pointless discussing this as the Government has made their intentions clear. Perhaps we can all wait for this mystical and magical 'Mining Boom' and use all the proceeds from that to liven this state up as have QLD and WA ... pigs a##
