I remember going in one of it's elevators, which was controlled by an operator!

A few weeks i noticed that Harris Scarfe no longer have operators in the elevators. Probably cost cutting or something?

They replaced the old lifts with automated lifts a long time ago... I forget how long now but it was around the same time that they installed the airconditioning and the other renovations.

It has been going on for a few weeks now. If you go into the basement you'll see that the stock is thinning dramatically. They've even blocked off some sections. Upstairs is a similar story (no pun intended). It really looks like they mean to move out, although I didn't have the cheek to ask anyone for any rumours or dates.

I would have expected them to close in the first day of the new year, since Christmas is the time where these stores make their money and January onwards is quiet. Interesting that they're running down now.

I guess your going to get a better idea of how things are going when there temporary store opens up or atleast works start on the temporary store.

Do you know where this temp store will be? The old Radio Rentals site above JB and the top of the Myer Centre are the only two candidates I can think of, and I doubt Myer would allow the latter.
