The shelter on the station side of the platform is approximately 20m in length. This is longer than what is typically seen at other platforms, which usually measure at approximately 12m in length. Therefore, the Port Dock station will have an additional 8m of shelter than what is typically provided.
A email I got back from the Port Dock Railway Line Project back in May as I was thinking the samething.

In general, the disappointing size of shelters is a problem across the network.

In general, the disappointing size of shelters is a problem across the network.
It is a shame they missed the opportunity to turn this into more of a station precinct, with perhaps a convenience store, and more interaction with Lipson street, and a more substantial station building, or a Euro style overarching steel structure similar to the original port station platform canopy.

Agreed. But with a 30 minute frequency, hardly anyone will use it anyway. Hardly an incentive to switch from a car to train when you have to wait for a two carriage diesel railcar to trundle in while waiting under a "shelter" that doesn't do what its designed to do. This situation is by no means unique to just one Adelaide Metro station, its the majority.

The solution is to truncate the Port heavy rail line at Port Dock, and to convert the section from the Port to Outer Harbor to light rail, interchanging with the heavy rail mainline in Port Adelaide.

Was on a train last night to Outer Harbor and it said was going to the Port dock.

I just checked the timetable. This is trivial. But I noticed that trains from Port Dock have 3 minutes from Cheltenham to Woodville Park on weekdays. That is one minute per station in a diesel set. It looks to be exclusive to trains running to PD. This is worse than the stoppers from Noarlunga at night two decades ago that had 4 minutes from Marino Rocks to Brighton on absolute skeleton running times.
And I was thinking that it could be practical to run trains to Woodville, then change ends and continue to Grange. I don't understand the point of having up to 6 or 7 carriages serving Alberton to Adelaide every 30 minutes all day.
There are also some other timetable flaws, which give trains running express from Woodville to the city the same amount of running time that the stoppers have. Examples are ones departing Woodville at 5:52PM, 6:29, 6:59, and 7:29. Less mistakes are apparent with the down scheduling. But I think that 10 minutes express to Woodville from the city is at least a minute or two too much.

Its not a trivial observation. Adelaide trains and trams are rediculously slow. They are capable of much higher speeds, and tighter timetabling. Nothing worse than sitting on an express service, that is crawling along at 60 kph. Almost like the loose timetabling is to make up for mediocre performance of staff. Under promise- over achieve.
