from the article:
Among the concerns are that some bedrooms may not have outside windows as required by the NSW and Gold Coast codes as well as the overall "footprint" of the buildings.

Hey people, very interesting thread. Being a boy from Birkenhead this thread caught my attention and I spent most of last night reading the entire 31 pages of this thread. There's so many things I would love to go back and re-hash from this thread but most of it would be pointless now. I am however looking forward to future discussions about the whole Port Adelaide development and if I get a new camera I might be able to provide everyone with some snaps

Consider it a challenge. I guess I'll head out on Monday for another round of snaps.

Go Norman!
You photos are always good quality.
The Techport / ASC development is only a couple of km further north along the road to Outer Harbour and they are spending $350m there to get ready for the new air-warfare destroyer contract.
Lots of piles goimng into the ground and cement being poured to handle the weight of a 6000 odd tonne vessesl

HMAS Ballarat is open to visitors tomorrow (Sunday) 10am to 3pm at Dock 2 - Ocean Steamers Rd - which implies that the rail viaduct &
bridge will be accessible from the north side (a site fence was there last time I tried).

The 'historic' sheds just will not die!
From The Advertiser:
MPs move to save boatyard
Article from: The Advertiser

THE state's Upper House last night backed a motion to save the historic Port Adelaide boatyards.
The motion, introduced by Greens MLC Mark Parnell, would allow the three remaining boatyards in Birkenhead to continue operating for another year to allow for a heritage assessment of their significance to be undertaken.
The historic boatyards on the north shore of the Port River Basin are facing imminent demolition in preparation for part of the billion dollar Newport Quays Development
But prominent identities including yachtsman Sir James Hardy have led calls for them to be heritage listed.
Mr Parnell said the boatyards were fundamental to the working history of Port Adelaide.
The Port is at great risk of losing what makes it truly special," he said.
"The maritime character of the Port waterfront is being stripped away before our eyes.
The motion will now be debated by the lower house.

Fair enough .. if there's anything of historic value in there ... de-construct it and move it to a museum! Those businesses can't be profitable now days?

What a joke. The original proposal > this blocky bullshit. Well done Port Adelaide Enfield Council, well done.

Good to see a lot of ground floor retail activity in the fly-thru. It is unfortunate that there will still be above-ground prison bar car park structures. The one thing that ruins Edgewater is the car parks. Height is irrelevant, it's what's on the street that counts.
