So South Rd will now go down to just 2 lanes (each way) using these service roads. So will this likely be the case until its all finished (in some 2 years)?

Yes true but I think there could have been enough room to make it 3 lane service/interim road [esp if its for the next 2 years].

Why 2 years. The project timeline says it will open in 12 months.

Project is meant to be done later in 2021. Three lanes just for a service road is unnecessary.

Looks like new traffic light just north of Regency Road intersection (by one of those industrial area streets) and one on the coopers corner. I wonder if there will be a temporary roundabout with traffic lights ala what was done at Grange Road

This will be a temporary u-turn facility for when right turns onto Regency rd are removed.

Offsite construction of the Regency Road overpass

In February 2020, the R2P Project commenced preparation works for the offsite construction of the Regency Road overpass in the Polonia Reserve compound.

Preparation works include:

site clearance;
installation of underground utility services and drainage systems;
installation of fencing for a secure worksite;
construction of a car park for plant and work vehicles;
construction of hardstand; and
construction of levelling pads to support the overpass.
What is the hardstand?

The hardstand is a 300 millimetre thick area of compacted rubble that is designed as a platform with enough strength and durability to support the weight of heavy machinery. The material used for the hardstand will be re-purposed into the other areas of R2P Project once the overpass construction is complete.

What are the levelling pads?

The levelling pads are 75 millimetre thick base of compacted fine sand laid on top of the hardstand. The pads assist with the levelling and distribution of the weight of the temporary support structures, and to provide a firm base.

During early July 2020, the temporary support structures will be delivered to the site.

The purpose of the temporary support structures is to allow for 80 metre sections of the overpass to be constructed offsite in two pieces. This allows completed sections of the overpass to be installed via Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) over Regency Road.

There are 12 temporary support structures that weigh a total of 300 tonnes. These will support 2600 tonnes of the overpass, at 5.5 metres above the hardstand.

Approximately 210 tonnes of the steel being used for the temporary support structures is re-purposed from other South Australian infrastructure projects. After using them on the R2P Project, it is intended that the temporary support structures will again be re-purposed on future projects.

Steel supplies and the design of the temporary support structures has all been provided by South Australian based companies.

Its not that big of stretch of road.
Its just widening a road and building a bridge over an existing one.
If it wasnt moving along smoothly I'd be asking why, considering its not exactly something ground breaking for SA, like say a tunnel under suburbia.

Well they can’t even get surfacing right. Travelled on the southbound left lane of Darlington, which has just opened. Pretty rough for a new surface.

Not to mention they grate surface roads 2 months before they bother to resurface.

The bitumen on Darlington's southbound lanes is not brand new it was laid a while ago, the motorway is still a construction site. It's quite clear that they're waiting to do the final smooth surfacing layer for both northbound and southbound; the current layer doesn't line up with the drainage grills in the motorway or the gutters on the surface (the final layer will make it level) and there are sections which have been grated awaiting the final layer. It's not finished yet, they'll do the final layer just before the official completion.

The road is not completed and DPIT posted about the roads final surface being laid now. It’s a six week project to place the final touches on the site.

The bridge towards goodwood road was completed and lines marked last Friday, the final layer is smooth.
