News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
It bothers me that extending the line wasn't factored into the current redevelopment, likely because of indecision about the Outer Harbor branch generally.

I can think of a few:
San Francisco opened the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) in 1972
Munich, for the Olympics they delivered a big suburban rail renewal and expansion by 1972.
London Underground extended the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow in 1977.
Sydney's Eastern Suburbs Railway opened in 1979.
Brisbane, Ferny Grove - Darra electrification in 1979.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- Brisbane’s Merivale Bridge opened in 1978 connecting the Beenleigh line across the river from South Brisbane to Roma Street.
- Melbourne’s City Loop began construction in 1971.

Also Sanyo Shinkansen in Japan was completed in 1975. The Tohoku and Joetsu lines also started in 1971 and took the entire decade to build (both opened early 80s. Further lines were only delayed or scrapped due to mounting debt, not due to PT being out of favour).metro wrote:I can think of a few:

In Adelaide, the Noarlunga Rail Extension opened in 1978, after works to extend the line from Hallett Cove.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
So...2 weeks before Keolis Downer take over the trains, and they don't have enough staff, and haven't got regulatory approval to operate?

I was wondering what work they were doing over there. Hopefully this gets done in time for when the line opens up to Mawson Lakes at the end of April.PeFe wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 6:37 pmAnd getting back to the subject of Adelaide Metro trains.......

Seeing as the masts are up between Mawson Lakes and Salisbury now. There's a Youtuber that makes videos of the freight side at Parafield Gardens and you can see the masts are now up in that segment of the line. We are getting closer to those electrics running on this line.
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Do we/they have the new trains to operate on this line yet? When are they scheduled to be received?Jacob_ULG3 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 3:11 pmI was wondering what work they were doing over there. Keolis Downer's contract begins today.
It is a complete travesty that this has been allowed to happen.
Privatising important public assets serves only the outdated ideology of a dangerous political party.

These types of posts are amusing, I mean are you talking about the Labor party or the Liberal Party?ChillyPhilly wrote:Keolis Downer's contract begins today.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
In this specific instance, Liberals. We notably have them to thank for the sale of ETSA and privatising operations of SA Water as well. The only reason SA Pathology wasn't privatised was because COVID proved just how successful it was; the Lib walked away with their tails between their legs and quietly forgot about privatisation. But Labor is also guilty of privatising public services and is currently being a bit hypocritical over PT privatisation; they went through two contract re-tenders for the buses and kept them privatised, but suddenly privatisation is bad for the trains and trams?Waewick wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 9:46 amThese types of posts are amusing, I mean are you talking about the Labor party or the Liberal Party?ChillyPhilly wrote:Keolis Downer's contract begins today.

Privatisation only works for the new company to gain a profit out of the asset that's being privatised. Public services aren't there to make money, they're there to provide an essential service and if they do make any profit then that's an added bonus. The only way privatisation of public services can be profitable is to cut services/quality, make redundancies and cut back in other areas to save money.
