Man, that little Camera House building looks even more piddly now. I mean, it's a decent little piece of Art Deco, but why wasn't it knocked down? Did the owners refuse to sell? Shame, as that thing is probably too tiny to be developed, and will now spend countless years sandwiched between two much bigger (and better) buildings.

Beautiful building.

I love the black glass on this one, probably my favourite cladding seen in Adelaide so far. Minor issues with it though; I can't help but feel that it should have been set back more as it now seems to suffocate Adelaide Arcade (probably a site limitation?).The other thing I would have preferred is for the podium to have been slightly bigger to match the height of Adelaide Arcade and the adjacent heritage building fronting Hindmarsh Sq.

I was told by a tenant of Adelaide Arcade that the art-deco single-storey building currently occupied by Camera House is actually part of the Adelaide Arcade buildings, and is heritage listed, hence why it had to be retained as-is.

For a budget hotel chain, this is a fine looking building!

Congratulations to the Accor group for making a quality contribution to Adelaide's skyline.

On the signage, why have they stuck a big Ibis sign on the northern side of the podium as well? Considering it's 90% obscured by neighbouring buildings up Twin St, it seems kind of odd.

I think I have a new favourite building in Adelaide. The colors and design are awesome.
The other good thing is that the logos fit in well with the building design rather than being something slapped on as an after thought. :applause:

If your talking about modern architecture it would have to be pretty spectacular to be as good as SAHMRI or Adelaide oval. Vue looks like it would be appealing much like Ibis but the two mentioned in my opinion are in a league of their own

From the Hines Property websit:
Ibis Hotel opens in Adelaide

The economy hotel sector in Australia continues to be revitalised with the launch of the most innovative economy hotel to be built in Australia – Hines Property’s $70m Ibis Adelaide Hotel.

The ‘affordable chic’ Ibis product features a radically different lobby and public area design, advanced levels of technology, high quality bedding and in-room facilities and a prime central business district location – all at an affordable rate.

A stand out technology feature is the Samsung Smarthub 690 Series in every room which, as its name suggests, is the smartest one-stop-shop for accessing everything from the restaurant’s menu and on demand entertainment to internet enabled TV apps, while gym facilities feature the latest Technogym exercise equipment with Bluetooth capabilities.

In another Australian first for Ibis Adelaide, rooms feature artworks by street graffiti artist Ghostpatrol, who was specially commissioned for the project. Ghostpatrol has had a number of solo exhibitions as well as collections at the National Gallery of Australia and Artbank.

Beds offer guests the ultimate in affordable comfort with the inventive ‘Sweet Bed by ibis’ bedding concept, a standard of bedding normally reserved for 5 star hotels.

Located in the heart of the Adelaide CBD, Ibis Adelaide is the ultimate hotel for business and leisure travel. The hotel features 311 guest rooms, a bar, restaurant and conference facilities, WiFi throughout the hotel, guest laundry and an on-site gym. Ibis Adelaide is adjacent to the city's shopping and dining precincts, Rundle Mall and Rundle Street. The Adelaide Oval, Casino, Convention Centre, Botanic Gardens, National Wine Centre and Royal Adelaide Hospital are also within walking distance.

Red letter day for Ibis Adelaide, the city’s newest hotel

GIUSEPPE TAURIELLO

IT was a red letter day for the city’s newest hotel yesterday, when the $70 million Ibis Adelaide was officially unveiled.

Offering 311 state-of-the-art economy rooms, meeting facilities, foot outlets and a fitness centre, the 17-storey Grenfell St tower is the largest Ibis hotel in Australia.

It adds to Hines Property’s 308 rooms at the nearby Crowne Plaza, making the developer the largest owner of hotel accommodation in Adelaide, according to managing director James Hines.

“The response has been phenomenal - stronger than I expected,” he said.

“I think it just shows the large demand for accommodation in Adelaide - year to date it has grown stronger here than in any other capital city in the country.”

“A large part of that comes with Adelaide Oval.”

Graffiti artist Ghostpatrol was commissioned to provide artwork for each of the rooms, which are equipped with the latest Samsung technology, Mr Hines said.

“The rooms are quite different, the whole hotel is different to anything else in Adelaide - it’s a very edgy, modern and casual environment,” Mr Hines said.

More than 150 guests and television personalities, including My Kitchen Rules 2014 winner Jessica Liebich, Nova presenter Dylan Lewis and Aria nominated singer Emma Louise, attended an event last night where Premier Jay Weatherill officially unveiled the new hotel.

Mr Hines confirmed the company was in early planning for a large-scale apartment project in the CBD
