Just to refresh people's minds, when a development is first proposed, construction does not proceed immediately. It usually takes around 2-3 years from when a development is first proposed to when construction begins, due to the many individual steps involved such as seeking development approval, seeking finance, seeking contractractors to actually build the thing etc...
Hence, the lack of high-rise construction at the moment is not a reflection of the state of the economy today, but rather a reflection of the state of the economy back in 2008-09, when if we recall, very little was submitted for development approval.
This year the situation has returned to pre-GFC levels, however, these proposals will only start filling our CBD with cranes again by late next year at the earliest.

Don't forget, there'll be two cranes at CC8, one on the Globe site on Rundle, one on the Waymouth St 16 level jobbie and soon another at the Loft Development. So there should be four up by the end of the year.

Forgot about the HMRI building too, that will get a crane.
Now, I was looking from a distance from my office in the CBD, but from my floor, what looked like a yellow crane base was being moved around the HMRI site. I could be wrong though...

Mind you a lot of their campus developments need multiple cranes.
I remember the site near Russell had three at last count.
