Yes, that was on the last render. All the original plans didn't have it though. I have no idea what it's for.

I am surprised that I didn't notice the overhang of the northern portion of the western glass facade on the renders. I suppose it will help protect some of northern windows from that strong arvo sun from the west. Now that the frame is going up you can see the overhang will be significant. Should look great.

Personally the thing that makes this stand out for me, is that it is not covered in the generic-style glass we keep seeing.

Yeah I agree the full-on glass one's look a little weak and bland .. unless the right type of glass is used. Black and dark glass can look fine (eg. black stump) but the clear and green glass is aweful.
I do like a mix of solely glass and cladding (?) but call me old fashined, I like the AON building in Melbourne .. the octagonal cream building ..
Would hate to see Adelaide just have all glass towers in the future .. boring and cheap!!

Generic-style glass?

Actually, VS1's windows have clear glass. It's the veil that is tinted.

Cheers

Generic-style glass?
he's referring to the green, transparent glass we have seen on so many other buildings

I noticed that there is a big square opeining in the facade just to the left of the SA Water signage. Does anyone know what this is for?
I believe one side of the building is laboratories so up on that terrace area will be for lab testing......bit of shame with such an elevated view

Mants pretty much summed it up.
The glass style I'm talking about is that seen on City Central and a few other recent buildings.
While I don't mind it, I do think some variety would be better.(I posted about it on another thread I think)

most of the labs are on the second level on the eastern side so not much of a view from them
