I am absolutely loving these weekly/daily photo updates! Thanks Whatstheirname!

Just putting it out there, but tacking that heritage facade onto the bottom of the podium is going to look shambolic.

It’s heritage listed (so no choice) and the place of the first minted Adelaide pound in SA. It actually looks quite classy in the renders.. if anyone wants to re-post the render showing it?

Each to their own as usual. I understand the significance and that's why it seems so tacky to me. There's integrating a building from an aesthetic sense, but there's also integrating its feel and history. It legit just looks like an old wall stuck on a new building. The people sipping wines in a lobby bar aren't minting pounds.how good is he wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 10:48 pmIt’s heritage listed (so no choice) and the place of the first minted Adelaide pound in SA. From an aesthetic point I wish they kept more of the wall to lend some depth to it, rather than just... sticking it on.
Respectfully disagree with you cats, just not for me.

If you look to the right of where the wall is shown in the below render, I believe that a stone wall will be recreated as a feature to run back into the development. I think that would go a way to tying the heritage facade and development together.Algernon wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 3:04 amEach to their own as usual. If you look carefully you'll see there is a balcony on top and the façade protrudes out onto the pavement. I think it will look fine.Algernon wrote: ↑Fri Jun 01, 2018 3:04 amEach to their own as usual. I understand the significance and that's why it seems so tacky to me. The side walls of the saved building were just plain red brick as were all the unseen side walls of the surrounding buildings. There is always the problem of a mismatch in styles when trying to integrate an old building into a much newer building. If they build a stone side wall, this will indicate that at least the builders are making some effort to give the old building some importance and a sense of place. I attached some earlier pictures and see also Llessur's Pictures from page 24.

On second view, I think that entire façade looks fabulous.

Wow that elevation detail looks so brilliant! I think this building will become our best-looking tower, a new Adelaide icon.
I hope the Elenberg Fraser get another Adelaide commission after this one!
