We know now - Tom Koutsantonis will cut the ribbon, flanked by Nick Champion, Lee Odenwalder and Tony Piccolo. Not sure yet whether it will be thanks for building it or brickbats for taking so long to the former Liberal government.Spotto wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 12:49 pm“We don’t even know if we’re gonna be voted back in, so it’ll be ready when it’s ready”RetroGamer87 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 7:52 amThat's pretty funny in a sick sad way. It was a Labor project to start with. Don't expect Liberals to get a mention at all come opening time.

Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Labor were only going to half-arse the project by only electrifying the line to Salisbury though, no?
Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
To tamp down this argument before it starts up again, Labor originally committed to electrifying the full line before the Abbott Government withdrew funding. Some argue this was because Liberal anti-transit malevolence, others argue Labor was dilly-dallying about. The two will never agree.

The project as the whole line was funded and signed off on a few weeks by Labor before the last SA election in 2018.

Labor was only able to secure Stage 1 to Salisbury. Libs and Feds signed off on Stage 2 a few months after the election.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 9:46 pmThe project as the whole line was funded and signed off on a few weeks by Labor before the last SA election in 2018.
Which led to the delays in December 2020 getting blamed, rightfully or wrongly, on Labor: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-12-07/ ... t/12956408
"This is a very messy contract we were left with when we came into Government," he said.
"It was a contract written with only 5 per cent of design done so we've had to go through and look at some of the variations and there was a number of legal claims that were being made against this contract. It has meant there has been an increase in the cost."

Correct, but it is wrong for Wingard to shift blame.Spotto wrote:Labor was only able to secure Stage 1 to Salisbury. Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Apparently Labor is looking at tearing up the privatisation contract to run the network. Was apparently an election promise.

Rode on 4023 one of the new EMUs. Practically identical to the original units but with new strip lighting on the door threshold. The light also flashes as the door closing chimes sound.
The train is also filled with the next-gen card validators with only one paper ticket validator at each door zone.Re: News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Trains
Test trains were running today, Tuesday. 4 single car diesels were running the entire length of the line all afternoon. At Chidda when trains past the automated pedestrian crossings weren't operating but traffic controllers were in attendance. No electric trains were running. On Saturday guard rails were being installed on the underside of the Park Tce bridge parapets in addition to the throw screens that had been installed several weeks ago. In the last couple of weeks the overhead has been prepared for energisation, but I don't know whether it is actually live yet.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Mon Mar 21, 2022 5:28 pmThe line will be tested by some electrics from tomorrow.

Toilet block at Salisbury Station has been demolished. Good riddance they were usually feral.

I saw a single diesel, 3020, southbound across Curtis Road at about 1410 this afternoon (Wednesday 23 March). The boom gates and lights worked without any visible operator or observer.PD2/20 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 22, 2022 6:46 pmTest trains were running today, Tuesday. 4 single car diesels were running the entire length of the line all afternoon.
