Labor were only going to half-arse the project by only electrifying the line to Salisbury though, no?

The project as the whole line was funded and signed off on a few weeks by Labor before the last SA election in 2018.

"This is a very messy contract we were left with when we came into Government," he said.

"It was a contract written with only 5 per cent of design done so we've had to go through and look at some of the variations and there was a number of legal claims that were being made against this contract. It has meant there has been an increase in the cost."

Labor was only able to secure Stage 1 to Salisbury. Libs and Feds signed off on Stage 2 a few months after the election.

Rode on 4023 one of the new EMUs. Practically identical to the original units but with new strip lighting on the door threshold. The light also flashes as the door closing chimes sound.

The train is also filled with the next-gen card validators with only one paper ticket validator at each door zone.

Test trains were running today, Tuesday. 4 single car diesels were running the entire length of the line all afternoon. At Chidda when trains past the automated pedestrian crossings weren't operating but traffic controllers were in attendance. No electric trains were running. On Saturday guard rails were being installed on the underside of the Park Tce bridge parapets in addition to the throw screens that had been installed several weeks ago. In the last couple of weeks the overhead has been prepared for energisation, but I don't know whether it is actually live yet.
